Ohmigosh, how freaky. I've wondered about this very thing for years and years now (I think it came to me one morning in the shower, while I was still in high school). It's always been at the back of my mind and I think I even posted it at AppleInsider a long time ago (I might've been a little drunk - and therefore, fearless).

Kinda neat to see I'm not the only one whose mind it crossed.

However, what if they did this and it went bad and really messed things up, sending us on a weird, decades-long collision course with the moon OR pushing us right into the path of that asteroid that's supposed to "barely miss us" in a few years?

Nice going, assholes. Your jumping up and down will kill us all!

I remember hearing a while ago that if everyone took a step in one direction at the same time we could change the rotation of the planet.

That would HAVE to throw something out of kilter, wouldn't it?

That terrifies me more than any jumping stunt.

If everyone worldwide did it, even assuming it could make a difference, then the people on one side of the globe would be negating people on the other side of the globe.

Although, our side would probably win, what with all the lardasses we have in this country. But then again, this is all... strictly theoretical

And if everyone cut loose at the same time well... that'd stink.

Yeah. First of all, my roommate has actually done the calculations himself, as a somewhat eccentric physics major (there really isn't any other type). And it wouldn't work.

Furthermore, the site doesn't have everyone jumping at once. You have to give your location on the planet and then it will tell you when to jump. So I will be jumping 12 hours apart from someone on the opposite side of the world.

NEWS ITEM : JULY 21st 2006

The earth went spinning out of it's normal gravitational rotation around the Sun today, and scientists believe it will send the earth hurtling out of the solar system ensuring a frozen death for all of Earth's inhabitants.

The reason is that two scientific communities could not come together and one half of the world jumped and the other half pooted, confusing all known natural laws and sending the Earth spinning towards it's eventual demise.

Said the "Pooters" side leader, a Proffessor P. Scates, "I feel just awful about this.....I...I really believed in the power of the poot".
Professor Scates went on to add that anyone wishing refunds on their "Poot Power" merchandise should "get requests in as soon as possible because of the whole we're doomed thing".

My French class at school has a pile of old tabloids in the back of the room. One of them has an article about how the Chinese are planning on all jumping at noon on Father's Day to knock us out of orbit, and that good ol' red blooded Americans were going to perform a counter jump at the same time.

Took a while to figure that out though, as it was a French tabloid.
