What gives? Only $20 off the regular price?

$599 is $579. Ok thats cool, its a decent discount relative to price.

BUT.....

$799 is $779. Man thats just lame.

You would think they would tier it a bit better than that.

Um, if I remember correctly the education discount for the old minis was only $20 as well. Why the griping now?

Interestingly the UK student discount is up to around $100 on the top model.

Wow, I think even the iPod has a larger student discount than that. ($30, IIRC)

The iPod also has a larger profit margin.

And the old discount for the mini was still only $20, so I don't see why we're griping now. Granted, the mini is a bit more, but Apple doesn't have to give student discounts in the first place. Griping that they're not big enough seems kinda greedy.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

They're just not really proportional. iPod is $30, Nano is $20, iBook 12" is $50, 14" is $100, 12" PB is $100, 15" MBP is $200...mini at $599, $20, ok, I guess, kinda lame, but whatever...but for $800 it should at least go up to $30 or $40 =P
