So at the suggestion of one of our less than stellar members AN has been set up with the Amazon affiliate program.

Amazon will pay 4% of the purchase price of products bought after clicking our affiliate link to AN. This means we can actually maybe have nice things some day, instead of cleaning out couch cushions and holding out a cup on street corners. (Thanks murbot!)

After a week we're already at $13 on 5 items, so this could very well offset the entire out of pocket expenses for this place. So, if you like AN, and want to support it just click on the link below before you buy something on Amazon.

The main Amazon page for our referrals.

I'm just "one of our members" now?!??!? I'll have you know, I was instrumental in getting this forum set up when Brad was doped up and Jack didn't know how to get vBulletin working, thankyouverymuch.

I'm glad we got this thing finally set up. We should be able to cover our server costs, easily.

Excellent work alcimedes (and who would have thought such a useful idea could come from torifile? ). If the massive cash flow continues, perhaps you could reduce the 30-second delay between searches. Do it in 5-second steps though, lest we rush things.

Edit: I realise these demands are exactly the kind of thing you don't want. If at some point in the future we get a lot more than $13, would it be feasible, wise, etc., to use some to buy advertising for AppleNova through Google or whatever? This would obviously only work with a lot more money, if at all.

Yes. But i thought it was only from .com? Does it apply to all amazon's sites then?

What's atrocious is that Amazon doesn't serve Amazon. Come on. Don't go around advertising yourself if you aren't even local to the area. What a dickish move, Bozo.

Actually does anyone know if there would be tax issues with a UK store sending money to a US citizen? I assume that would be income that has to be declared then, right?

Anyone know?

We have a UK affiliate account and take orders from all over the world.
I even use it myself to order things for us here in Thailand.

The only problem we've had with Amazon is that for the last 12 months we keep racking up money and no-one answers our emails or sends us any cheques... I can log in and look at the money.. I can almost taste it. But they don't seem to want to give it to me! They did in 2006 and 2007, but in 2009 we haven't been paid since 2008!

And, yes it's over the minimum level etc.

I think they call themselves Amazon because they will effectively one day be responsible for the entire Amazon (in terms of all the trees they've caused to be chopped down). Simple.

If I click on the link in the OP and navigate to the UK store... does it still work?

That I have *no idea* about. I'm holding off on making a UK version until I know what it would do to my tax/income situation. Last thing I need is to fall into the "automatic audit" group.

You can try it though.

Damn, this Amazon.com site looks interesting. Might become a huge hit some day. Imagine buying stuff over the Internet!

Sounds scary. I mean, do you just mail them a check? That's just risky. And how do I sign the bill of sale?

And what if my preferred transaction method is barter? Will I have to ride all the way to Star City just to meet up with Mr. Owlpoopings, the duly authorized trade representative for Amazon? And what if he doesn't like the rat pelts I have to trade? It sounds pretty risky for an old trader like me.

And will it not take the goods some time to arrive by train?

Forget it. I shop locally. I go to Tom Nook's Cranny for all my shopping needs. I just hand him a big bag of Bells and he gives me all the wallpaper or tree saplings I could want. I even sell him my fossils, but don't tell the neighbors - I'm supposed to be donating them to Blathers at the Museum.

awesome nerdy points for anyone who gets this

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong
