Some of these responses are very funny if you haven't seen them.

Anyone here from sweden know if this stuff is all true? And in that case, anyone know a good swedish host?

While we are on the topic of BitTorrent, lets all have a moment of silence for the passing away of suprnova.org

*silence*

You know it's been on my safari bookmark bar for so long I haven't even typed the URL in for god knows how long...

No you're right I just like to pretend to be ruff and tuff and go to scary places like torrent sites... Normally if I do have to go there I ask a friend to come and sit next to me in case I meet anyone big and tuff on the way in... Then I can stick my floppies in their pocket and peg it...

When scuba diving I also carry a knife in case I see a shark.. Then I can stab my buddy and swim away... :smokey:

Speaking of torrents, are tv show torrents illegal? I just downloaded the first six episodes of Lost to watch on my pocket pc. I uploaded about 3x as much as I downloaded. I'm a good torrenter. Any ideas?

Stop being a good torrenter?

Is it illegal to tape TV shows if it's not for profit? I always thought yes, but it didn't matter, but you always have the NFL disclaimer every commercial break.

I know in the UK that technically tapeing anything off the tv is illegal. It was just never enforced. This was back when I last looked at the law. I wonder if there has ever been an amendment.

I don't think it's illegal to tape shows as long as you're not selling them. If it were illegal Tivo wouldn't be so huge. Anybody have an answer?

I'm going to miss suprnova.com (). I don't know where else to go.... Oh well. I'll find some other vice...

It is illegal to distribute the tv shows as you do pretty much as soon as the torrent is opened.

The Beta case said that it was legal to tape a show, but the copyright holders still maintain their right to distribute as they see fit.

That makes sense. But I could argue that I'm not actually distributing the show at all. The bits that I'm uploading wouldn't make a playable file until AFTER I start seeding.

It's probably better that it's gone. I don't need any drama in my life.

Ah poor suprnova.org. I'm sure OIT at my college will do a happy dance, the amount of .torrent traffic that flowed thru my dorm as a result of seed files on suprnova was insane. Suprnova.org is dead, long live Lokitorrent.com!

Lokitorrents interface is horrible.

I guess server demand was too great, but I liked when suprnova listed everything instead of each category individually. Although it did encourage me to download a lot of stuff that I didn't know I wanted, but that's why I liked it.

No suprnova is bad news. There are a few other torrent sites that have a goodly amount of stuff, but none compare to the mighty suprnova.

I don't get why.

I mean, yes, mostly it's just knowledge about the place, but it shouldn't be a bandwidth hog to track torrents should it?

I mean it's not too hard, I added a line of code to my httpd.conf file and I was a torrent tracker.

AddType application/x-bittorrent .torrent
Add that to httpd.conf file located at /etc/httpd/

If you don't know how, just open the terminal and type 'open /etc/httpd/'

Hey, while your in the terminal, to restart the web server without having to open system preferences and turn on and off personal web sharing, just type 'sudo apachectl graceful' <-- (Note, general precaution about sudo, and that is an L after apachect)

Make a torrent and put it on your server. Download the torrent and open it up, it should download and now your seeding.

If anything is unclear, check out the real tutorial
