  • mineshafts yes/no
  • temples yes/no
  • ravines yes/no
  • dungeons yes/no

  • lava lakes yes/no
  • lava lake rarity #
  • lava oceans yes/no
  • biome all/specific

    • andesite
    • coal ore
    • iron ore

I'm not sure what the unit or scale is for each of the numerical options. Only the ore #s are the counts per chunk. Sea level is the block height (default 63).

I've just finished multiple tests in the exact same place in SSP, and indeed under the right circumstances, if you're crouching on top of an enchanting table, for a very brief instant (literally one tick or frame), Minecraft thinks you're on the ground below it and can set you on fire if lava is there. Weak sauce! At least now we know. The very same thing happens with chests, but no other blocks, as far as I can tell. I guess it really does have something to do with the fact that they are almost but not quite full-size blocks.

One invisible player and one with x-ray vision.

Brad, you need to be better about spreading this power around!

For ore, size is max ore per cluster, tries is clusters per chunk. Biome size default is 4, IIRC. Giant biomes is 8, I think. Dungeon number should be either x per chunk or 1/x chunks. Lake stats, however, I don't know.

Brad: the funny bit is, I actually wasn't the first one to spot you and RowdyScot in the village tower - I think that was gerlocian, at 14:24, while I was still staring down at Drew's nametag.

I didn't see you until almost a minute later, but I couldn't even see the tower itself until I was literally standing right next to it – X-ray vision has its downsides. I could have walked into a ravine on the way to the village and not known about it until I was already falling to my death.

Holy CRAP!!!

They even came up with a name for it!!!! CheatyVision™

What I've learned so far:

1) leave the game when you die
2) we should report major problems (like CheatyVision™ and not being on tote board)

Finale is up!

Yeah, lots of lessons learned for the next round. Hopefully we can avoid the major headaches (lag, texture loading) and just have a nice, clean go at each other.

The whole time Jess was sniping at you guys, she kept getting hit and we couldn't figure out what the hell was going on.

We thought one of you guys had a bow and we just couldn't see it. Man, would her tactics have been different had she known! UGH!

Still, it was a good game.

"CheatyVision". What a classic.

Yeah, aside from Dellphi not being on the board and my CheatyVision (which was as much a curse as a blessing since I couldn't see where the hell I was going), we had no idea anything else was amiss; gerlocian and I could see him just fine, and of course we couldn't hear anyone else's exclamations of disbelief as he was swording them.

I still need to watch more of Spec's videos but seeing me kill him and how that went down was a good different perspective. I loved Dellphi's last line in the video too.

"I think he won the game" — Dellphi, in reference to Turtle, upon fully understanding his own team's unexpected advantages.

Thanks again to all of you (Wes, Brad and Spec) for posting your footage!!!

Awesome!

If only we knew an editor who could take ALL the footage and cut it together so that we could follow the action from all sides!!

I think the Mindcrack guys try to get everyone who plays to record unless there's a serious problem. It helps ensure that nobody is cheating and provides ALL the options for viewers.

At this point, with their following, they also make a few bucks to help pay for their effort, time and investment.

In fact, they've rather carved out their own niche with the UHC name.

With that in mind, should we consider rebadging ours with a different name that's just as cool but relies less on riding their coat tails? Just a thought.

"A few bucks", yeah...some of those guys (like, say, Etho) can easily clear $1k per video, based on YouTube's ad payout rates. Even guys at the lower end of the subscriber count like Kurt probably make something close to a livable wage from YouTube alone.

In any case, I do agree that it would be cool to come up with a unique moniker for our particular competition. I don't have any ideas at the moment, but I'm sure we can come up with something in the weeks leading up to the next round.

Also: work on your funny voices.

If you listen to Bdubs in Season 10 then listen to him in Season 16 you can hear that he's either on medication, had a stroke, or developed an entertaining voice to help boost his hits.

You know, it helps to have some meter to the name when you say it out loud, and it should have sex in it.

How about:
  • AppleNova Super Hard Core
  • AppleNova Crazy Death Match
  • AppleNova BloodMatch Deluxe
  • AppleNova Sexy DeathTime Fight Thing
  • AppleNova Vampire SexPit
  • AppleNova Panicky Fight Boobs

I'll work on some more soonish.

Or, we could combine them all together into a super catchy, but short thing:

Or we could name them after different types of apples, in the same vein as the names for OS X releases.

Edit: And yes, I'm well aware this is a terrible suggestion. I got nothing.

+1 for BattleNova (sans the "UHC", since the reason we're coming up with a new name to begin with is so we're not blatantly copying the Mindcrack folks).
