https://www.apple.com/mac-mini/

Not a bad machine with starting specs at 256GB of storage and 8GB RAM. 4-core i3 from the start with up to 6-core i7. It's like they remembered there is a desktop market out there.

Vet/Military pricing is even better:

The one I would buy is not bad. Haven't checked RAM pricing from Newegg or others but I would upgrade the RAM after the fact now that I can:

Just to be clear, this is mostly the same model (it also has the same model number) as the 2018 (which, mind you, was no slouch). The only change is the increased storage capacity.

Unfortunately, Intel never made a suitable CPU for Coffee Lake Refresh last year, and it's unclear if they will for Comet Lake this year. Given that Comet Lake for desktops should come any day now, and Apple has opted to release this model, my guess is they know the answer to that to be "no, there won't be a new CPU". Which means we're looking at 2021 (three years!) for newer CPUs. Yikes.

It's basically the same computer, but with higher storage specs.

Edit: Drat, we were posting the same thing at the same time! Truth is, it's exactly the same computer.

That storage makes the difference for me more than anything. Sadly I didn't catch the rest was the same.

Having purchased a 2018 Mac Mini, albeit in early 2019, this kind of leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Could have had a 1TB SSD for the price I paid to get 512GB.

Stow it!

I bought a MM at the end of this past year, however I got a good deal from the reseller so I'll shut it.

Early 2019 was a year ago. It not unreasonable for there to be a new thing in a year!

It's not new, it still using the came CPU's, IGP, RAM, all they changed are the default SSD sizes.

So you’re both complaining that it “leaves a bad taste” that they Upgrades it after a year in a half, but also that they didn’t upgrade it enough?

It does seem odd that they didn’t at the least move to 9th gen Intel chips, unless there is a shortage. I mean the hardware was already a year out of date when it first shipped in Oct 2018. Not a huge difference mind you, but at least you’d be getting slightly newer hardware, rather than 3 year old stuff at full price.

I didn’t call it new, or an upgrade, Apple did.

As I said, the Mac mini uses Coffee Lake-B, and Intel never made a Coffee Lake Refresh-B.

You know, I really need another mini running Intel. Thing is I want something that doesn't have a three generation old CPU in it. I'm just REALLY hoping this gets updated with a current gen CPU. I need to reduce my power consumption and I can consolidate a few machines into a power sipping mini. However, I am having a hard time buying another one that is running an 8 series CPU with 11 is prevalent now.

Probably best to get a Tiger Lake NUC.

Yeah, I just started down this line of thought and started a new thread since it isn't really mini related anymore.
