Cripes, you yutzes have lasted longer than my grad school, first wife, four jobs, and getting two kids through college.

Almost two decades of virtual connection!
![]() Perhaps for our twentieth anniversary we organise an in-person meet-up? I’m up for some travel and think it could be very enjoyable. If anything I’ve noticed from a watch collectors group, life is too short and it’s the friendships that outweigh the collecting. |

I might have to go all “Ze Frank” and work out via the Earth Sandwich method.
Seriously, I’m not sure where everybody is located. I presume 90% of the active ‘nova posters live in the US. If there’s interest in the idea, I’m happy to set up a spreadsheet for just username and closest major city - that could be a good start to gauge numbers and arrive at a meeting destination. ![]() |

Crazy that it's been over 18 years for me. That would've put me at 21 years old.....so much has changed since then.

Same here. Joined in 2005, so 18 years.
I was just a baby college student at the time and now I've been married (twice!) and now have a soon to be 4 year old, two dogs, and two houses. This place just always seems to be somewhere where I can come back to and post about almost anything. I've mostly moved to Twitter and now Mastodon, but still find myself checking in here at least once a day. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

Has it been that long?!? Wow. Time flies. These past 10 years feels like 2-3 years. The past two years feels like months.

It is pretty wild to think it has been that long since I've been here, which is only one year shy of the founding.
I'd be interested in a public meetup if it were to happen. Louis L'Amour, “To make democracy work, we must be a notion of participants, not simply observers. Wow, it’s been a while, so many funny, strange moments. To think I came here after doing a search on Yahoo, dang it has been a long time, when I was having issues with a Power Mac G4. The time has gone in a flash, just like the iPod.

I’ve done meetups with guys from my bourbon group a couple times in different spots around the country. Always a fun time. I’d be interested.

Re: any sort of public wing-ding/get-together, eastern U.S. I ain’t flying anywhere anymore. Done with that aggravating nonsense. I’ll drive a few hours (Nashville, Atlanta, the Carolinas), but that’s it. I’d consider as far as 12 hours (Kansas City, specifically), because I’d stop and visit my friend there as well.

90 minutes down I-75 for me. Me and Cap’n Drew are practically neighbors. We stand out by the clothesline in our housecoats, drink sweet tea and gossip. And say”y’all” a lot.

Are we really all that old, now? I bet even Drew has gray hair. And I know Brad has gotten senile. I mean, he made me a moderator. ![]() And I'm quite certain Scates has written enough to fill several encyclopedia volumes full of Darwin Award nominees. ![]() I'm kinda sad that I haven't had much time for posts the last 6 months, but it's just too hectic right now. I rarely drop by, but today I decided to to provide my Signature Recap Threads, and... oh man, we're so old and I love it? I've been here a long time but not the whole time. And I would be up for a 2024 meetup.
I've got a great idea, actually. You should all come see me in Rochester, NY! Why? Because next year in 2024 there is the Big Solar Eclipse and Rochester is gonna be in a prime sight location for it and the city's already preparing for thousands of tourists. Wouldn't it be cool to see a big cosmic phenomenon with your Nova friends???? ...or we can do Atlanta, that's fine too. psmith2.0 Closest major city: Atlanta (or Nashville). Both around two hours from Chattanooga, in opposite directions. Been to both about 14 gazillion times in my life, actually lived in Nashville for a year in the late 90's. Probably know my way around it a little better, as a result. Hell, toss in Birmingham (Alabama) and Knoxville. All three of these cities are about two hours from Chattanooga. When you grow up where I do, you spend much of your youth/teen years traveling to these other 3-4 cities to see major music acts (McCartney, Duran Duran, Sting, The Power Station, Simon & Garfunkel, John Fogerty, Jackson Browne, etc. who never make it to Chattanooga), independent, limited-release movies, major league sporting events/teams, etc. That's been my experience. *shrug* |
