Apple now has the GeForce 6800GT available for the PowerMac G5. It's a $400 BTO option over the GeForce FX5200, or $350 over the 9600XT in the dual 2.5.

This is what Apple says about it:
Quote:
Availability Note: The NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL graphics card is currently more readily available than the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card. Customers may wish to take into account longer delivery times for the Ultra DDL card and consider the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT DDL card if CTO orders are needed sooner. The GT DDL card enjoys a $100 savings, as well, over the Ultra DDL card.
This is an excellent deal. The 6800GT is almost the exact same as the 6800 Ultra, but it's $100 cheaper. Now that I have more experience with the PC side of things, I can say that the 6800GT is very popular, one of the most popular high-end video cards available. Most of them cost $400, and you get just a single VGA and a single DVI. Two dual-link DVI ports for $400 is an amazing deal.

The only difference between the 6800GT and the 6800 Ultra is clock speed. They have the same amount and type of RAM, the same core with the same number of rendering pipelines, and they can both support the 30" Cinema display. A lot of people on the PC side of things have gotten their 6800GTs overclocked to be the same speed as a 6800 Ultra.

Oh yeah, it's also still nearly twice as fast as the Radeon 9800XT, which is only a $50 cheaper BTO option. I think the only people who would possibly go for the 9800XT now would be those who need a high end video card but also have an ADC display.

I think the logical explanation is that I'm so damn awesome that no one dared to risk degrading the overall quality of my thread with their inferiority.

Yeah, that's it.

YEAH? WELL I'LL HAVE A RADEON X800 BEFORE ANY OF YOU MAC-USING FUCKS!

No really, there's an X800 Pro at Outpost.com for $350. Great deal, and I prefer ATI over nVidia. Even though in reality, they both suck.

Wait, here comes a political thread... should I buy an S3 video card as a protest against the institutions of ATI and nVidia?
