I just posted this pic of Anna Paquin in another thread, and decided that I really love the artistic quality of black and white photos.
![]() Therefore, I thought it might be nice to have a thread dedicated to black and white photography. So, if you have any interesting black and white pics, please post them here and let us have a look. Thanks for any replies. ![]() |

Ansel Adams, by any chance? Pretty much any shot he took is a stunner.

Actually, whatever digital processing was done to those AA works was too drastic. The contrast is pushed way up on each of those photos, which makes them visually inferior to Powerdoc's examples. B&W is beautiful because the lumina detail is unfettered by the missing chroma information. Just look at the beautiful gradient in the pond photo...or in the stonework of that cathedral. The feathered look is why I love infrared photography in particular.

Black and white because it fits the mood...
![]() (Almost) black and white because that's how the camera took it... ![]() The sky was deep black; Jesus still loved me. I started down the alley, wailing in a ragged bass. |

I really dig Infrared pics, thinking of getting a film SLR just so I can give it a try,
My Rebel XT doesn't do a good job with this even though I've tried a ton of times. |

I'd say the above effect is barrel distortion, rather than the earth.

Yes the curvature of the earth is more fun. BTW in this case, a cons of a lens, becomed an advantage.

I keep coming back to look at this one, asen. That tree is the most remarkable specimen; and the leafy plant in the foreground is great too. Is that the English countryside, or some other lovely spot in the world? |

It's just a random English tree, nothing extra special.

![]() I just like this one. Most of my B/W images are on my other system so I'll post more later. One more: ![]() Louis L'Amour, “To make democracy work, we must be a notion of participants, not simply observers. Nice and original one
BTW a little more contrast would enhance your pic (black and white and not grey and grey) |

Yeah, I was about to say rather than discarding chroma info, in those two pics it looks like a color-->grayscale conversion. Not quite the same. And that's the difference I mentioned above...Oftentimes when people want a quick, more accurate B&W conversion of the color photo, they merely discard two out of three of the primary colors RGB.
