Well April first has come and almost gone and the Video iPod is conspicuously absent. So what would be the most likely date for apple to release this product if they ever decide to. Is April 4th out of the question, or will we be waiting for the 12th of Never for the iPod AV. I don't think we would be kept waiting for too long because apple would not wan't companies to start muscling into the fledgling movie download/pvp market.

For some reason I think that apple will wait to release the video iPod until they can get a 100gb 1.8 inch hard drive for the device. It can't be long now until one is announced because fujitsu just announced a 200gb 2.5 inch drive, and 1.8 inchers usually have about 1/2 the capacity of notebook drives. Also has apple ever introduced an entirely new product line without a special media event?

This is another reason why the iPod Video won't be there soon: those ignorant movie-studios! Read this article: it's very bad news for us, and for Apple. Between 20 and 30 dollars for a movie, no copy capability and diabolic limitations! They are completely stark raving mad! This proves that they are EVIL!

Hopefully the big studios will find out that nobody is willing to pay so much money for movie-downloads... and that Steve Jobs fixes the price for us at USD 9.99!

Well, interestingly, they allow DVD backups, but they're rather unclear on this: looks like the backed up DVD will, in fact, have DRM on its own (and thus not be a standards-compliant DVD-Video at all). So it's possibly nothing but a data backup.

I hope iTMS videos will soon allow DVD backup. Without DRM, please.

I was wondering (I didn't have a DVD burner on my last computer, so I am inexperienced with this): what format are DVDs burned in and do you just open them with DVD Player still, or do you use Quicktime?

The iPod cannot be relaeased yet because of the movie industries. The product itself is ready, but the movie industry is not ready to license full-length movies. That's why my post about April 1st was incorrect

That actually wouldn't surprise me. All the major rumor sites have been reporting an "iPod video" for a while. I think it's the movie studios holding Apple up - who knows, maybe they even planned to unveil it on February 28th? That explains the "dissapointing" event.

I think he changed his name on all his previous threads, but getting back on topic maybe apple will release the video iPod at 3 seconds after 1:02 Pacific Time Wendsday mourning, That's 01:02:03 04:05:06 for the people that didn't notice. Hey It's just a guess.

Just to resurface this, I've now gotten confirmation the iPod will be released next week. I assume that means April 11th, or next Tuesday.

No, it isn't dead. It's coming but just not right now. It also won't be like the mockups I've made or that we've all seen everywhere. As the thread says, it won't be soon.
