So, I have a problem with my Time Machine backups:

Setup is this: Wireless connection to Airport Extreme, USB HD attached to the back of that.
HD has two Time Machine .sparsebundle files for the two machines that back up onto it. It's full, so Time Machine has to delete old stuff to store new stuff.
The Backup for my machine only throws up this error message:

The backup for the other machine works fine.

I can mount the .sparsebundle for the other backup, but if i try to mount mine I get this:

I'm guessing that my Backup file is corrupt.

Questions are:

How did that happen?
How do I start again?
Will it keep happening?
Is it the fact that the HD is full the problem? I can get a bigger one if I must.

How long have you been running this setup? It's unsupported so I'm guessing Apple would just say buzz off and get a Time Capsule.

2 weeks. Is it unsupported? I thought it was official nowadays? I didn't have to do any Ninjitsu to make it work - just selected the drive which showed up in Time Machine assistant.

I can't definitively say. I was looking at Apple's support site for Airport Extreme and found this following article (right on the front page, too). However that seems to be outdated, both in wording (says you can't select an airport disk) and that it says OS X 10.5.

Tough call.

I also had the dreaded error 109 with my AirPort Extereme Snow Leopard Time Machine backups. I tried everything. Nothing worked for me. Finally I decided to turn off the automatic backups (this would supposedly keep the error 109 at bay).

So, I was relying on remembering to manually invoke Time Machine backups. This ended up with me having, essentially, weekly backups.

Backups need to be automatic.

Then 10.6.3 hit with this little tidbit...

(I bolded the one that sounds promising)

So, does anybody have any idea if the fix referenced in that bolded line is for the 109 errors? I've tried googling around and found nothing (except this old thread ).

For my part, I've turned the automatic backups back on. Just to see. I guess I'll know if it's fixed in a week or two, but I'd like to know now.

Why can't Apple be a little bit more detailed in their release notes?

Ugh.
