One day, yes, of course there will be an iBook G5, although that day won't be any time particularly soon. We may even be past Tiger by then, and onto the next OS.

No G5 iBook this year, not a chance in the world that will happen. People seem to be getting the iBook and PowerBook confused. The PowerBook will go G5 before the iBook will. And the G5 PowerBook is at this point, nonexistent.

Tiger will come out this year, some are saying as early as April 1st, but the G5 PowerBook may not show up this year at all. The best chance of seeing it is at the WWDC this summer. But no G5 iBook, that's at least a year away.

Come waste your time with me

Again, I think Freescale's e600 lineup has a better chance of making it into a PB and ibook than a G5, and I personally don't have a problem with this. I'd much rather see the 8641D in a high end PB than some G5. I made a similar post, with a link to the e600 line (specs and whatnot) here:

With enough power to compete with any other mobile processor, and most desktop processors, and isn't a powerhog or a heat hog like the G5.

I can't really say any more that I havn't already said in the other thread, so there's my 2 cents.

We Won't See the PB G5 at WWDC with the recent PB updates. Hopefully by fall, but I don't think any sooner than that!

Right now, Apple is still trying to fit a G5 into both of these computers, but It will kill the fans. There has been some probablems with fans on the G4s. From someone I heard that the PBs would have to be 2" thick (same size as the iMac G5) to beable to fit the G5 and a cooling system to support it in a laptop and this obviously isn't what Apple wants to do.

I'm hoping If we don't see the G5s by Fall, we'll see a Dual G4 1.8ghz in the PowerBooks.

Not until summer if then. The October revision will probably be the last revision for a bit. If anything there will be a minor CPU bump, 5400RPM drives, and perhaps 512MB of RAM standard.

I agree with you. I wonder how Apple would market this chip. "G4+?" "G4 Extreme?" "G4 Special Edition?"

Judging by Apple's recent naming trends, either G4 Extreme, G4 mini, G4 photo, or G4 shuffle.

Edit: Or you could have G4-and-a-half.
