I just went by the Apple Store in Broomfield, CO yesterday. I was amazed. The store was packed. You could hear calls coming in about the iPhone, people were asking questions, people were looking at the 4 ft. mockups at the entrance, etc. I talked to the employees and they say they are ready but it's going to be so busy. I don't know if this is true for all stores but this one is closing at 2-6. Earlier I heard it would be at 4-4:30. Does anyone know what time the online store will have phones available? I know the Apple online store is selling them but with them selling at 6PM across each time zone I don't know what to expect online.
I took 4 pictures while there. Two are of the iPhone mockups and one is of the new iPhone shirts with the June 29th date and another of the sign at the entrace mentioning the 2-6 closing time and being open until midnight. I posted them all at my web site if you want to look. It's on the main page www.avcconsulting.info |

The build-up and hype for this is amazing.
Will we look back in a few years and equate it with the 1984 Macintosh intro (or the 2001 iPod announcement)? Or will it be more like "oh, it was the G4 Cube of phones...". Hard to tell, but it certainly feels like we're on the cusp of something truly enormous and important. So torn. I really am. |

I work just a few blocks from the N. Michigan Ave store here in Chicago. I've been swinging by after work just out of curiosity to see if people are waiting in line yet.
Last night (after they had closed) there were three carpenters' trucks unloading into the back entrance. They were taking down about 25% of the displays on the first floor, presumably making room for the iPhone display. (And, no, nobody was waiting yet.) I'll have to drop by again today to see what they did. |

I wish I was closer to an actual Apple Store. There are two within 45 minutes, but none in Philadelphia itself. I'd go down to see what it was like if I didn't have to drive anywhere.

My friend in Kansas City, she lives in the Westwood area and is, literally, 1.4 miles from the Country Club Plaza where the KC Apple Store is (I mapped it). It's walking distance from her house (or about a 3-4 minute car ride, she says).
Brat. And she hardly ever goes! I gave her the link to the store page, where they show the free workshops (iPhoto, OS X, etc.) that she'd probably enjoy. Meanwhile, I'm making my Atlanta or Knoxville schleps anytime I need a fix or need to buy something Apple-y. If I had an Apple store less than two miles from my house, they'd be sick of seeing me after about four days. |

Seen a picture the other night a really long line on a ramp outside some sort of Apple store, I hope it's not a repeat of the PS3, loads of hype, loads of ques, then, nothing.

I stopped by the Apple Store on my way home, which is thankfully a mile away. There were no lines or camp outs. I saw the same display and shirts. As far as rearrangements in the store. They were none to suggest where the iPhone display would be.

The one in Fashion Island, or is there another in Newport Beach? Just curious, as I'll be there (Newport Beach) next week and was planning to have a look myself.

I went to the Newport Beach store years ago. Wall-to-wall vixens at that Fashion Island mall/plaza. You're right in the heart of Orange County soccer MILF country.
Have fun, and watch out for whiplash injuries. |

She's lucky to live in that area, the Plaza is really nice! I know that is the closest Apple store to me, and I would have to spend a few hours on the road to get there. Good thing I have a Apple EDU store a few blocks away that is run by people like you and me, hardcore fanboys |

No lines at the Southpoint store yet (not surprising). I was scouting the potential line area and it will be smack in the middle of the mid-day sun. From 3-6, when it's hottest, the there's no shade on that side of the store. I hope it's either cool, raining or at least overcast. If it's as hot as it is these days, it's going to be a long wait.
And I'm going to be smelly. I wonder if there's someway to capture that in my inevitable iPorn video (with Aldo Nova as the soundtrack!)... |

The Fashion Island one. The one at South Coast is in the mall, so Im speculating that store's line will form on the day of.

You should see some of the 'guys' at my Apple store! Image isn't everything there. They all wear the same outfits but they seem to have no grooming standards at all.

Remember the picture that was supposedly taken with the iPhone's camera? For a long time we thought the jam eating guy was a very ugly girl. Ugliness tends to confuse things a little. |

Yeah, if all you're doing with your MacBook is surfing, e-mail, iTunes, calendars, contacts and photo viewing, I agree. For some people, it could be a neat little "instead of" device, I'm sure.

i guess it just depends how "connected" to the web-teat i want to be.
at home i have my iMac 20inch for heavy stuff i have my iBook for either couch or bed or backyard stuff...and for heavy stuff when on the road and i have a mobile phone in my pocket 24/7 that basically does little but be a phone. i could replace it with something that is more useful (web, music, email and such) and get to do web stuff all the time. the question is: should i? of course the next step is just shoving a chip in my head and being connected 24/7. but then we would likely just be rolled in a fetal position all day long, surfing, chatting, viewing porn that said...i am weighing my options. at first i was waiting for the iPhone to either go verizon or come out as a stand alone iPod video plus without phone. then i was waiting for my contract to be up in aug 2008. now i am thinking of getting the iPhone and waiting a year to get a new bike (hell, my bike has done me well since 1988, one more year ain't gonna kill it). now my thoughts are...buy now or wait till V2. will V2 access the faster protocal than edge? i have wifi all around me, so the iPhone will be quick most of the time...still, waiting till V2 is often a good idea....just depends. is V2 this dec? or next summer? g crazy is not a rare human condition everything is food if you chew hard enough |

I'm sure v2 comes in direct relation to when I buy mine.
September: okay, finally bought iPhone. Three days later, Apple announcing Special Event to unveil iPhone 2. Like you, I'm surrounded by Wi-Fi, so I'm not counting that Edge thing as a huge hit. And since that's really it for me, I'm getting one. I'll probably get a first-gen model, skip the second one and, in about three or so years, get whatever third-generation model is out by then. I don't think I can wait until 2008 for a second-gen model. Been waiting SO long for something just like this. If I start picking it apart and thinking of reasons to wait, then I'll drive myself bonkers. It's perfect for me, I do believe. I think you should give it some serious thought, g. Sounds like you might be a good candidate for one too, I don't know. |

For me, the EDGE issue isn't that huge a deal either. Like Paul, I've got wifi everywhere I go except my car and I shouldn't be surfing the web while driving anyway...
That said, my only real reservation about the iPhone is the fact that they didn't include 3G - mostly because a cutting edge device should have access to the latest and greatest and this is the only area iPhone doesn't. |

Just thought I'd chime in that this is the first time I've seen the *entire* apple front page, dedicated to one product. Every little sub-section thingy is about the iPhone, all the news is about the iPhone...
