This is only my second post, and I'm not totally sure about your rules on new threads. That being said, I couldn't find anywhere that this would fit.
It has been widely speculated that a recent Apple patent would be used for a spread sheet (some speculated that it could be called Numbers). Is it possible that a new version of iWork will be released Wednesday with updates to Keynote and Pages, and with the edition of the spredsheet as well? This is a "Pro" event, but Apple seems intent on taking MS on all the way. Turning iWork into more of a pro suite would take on Office in a great way. |

I doubt it. I expect this 'Pro' event to focus on updated PowerMacs and pleasefortheloveofgod updated PowerBooks. If there's any software to be had it'll probably be this mythical Pro Photo app...though I'm personally not sold on that happening either.
I expect iWork to be updated at MWSF '06, and aptly redubbed iWork '06. So it goes. |

709's right. iWork is not a pro app, and it seems unlikely that Apple would want to make it one. Not only would it require a very significant investment to make it a credible alternative to Office for the grey-faced corporate drones (including building a spreadsheet from scratch), but I don't think Apple really wants to take on Microsoft on their own turf just yet.
I'll be very interested to see what comes in the next update. It's only 3 months away, so we shouldn't have long to wait. Last edited by staph : 2005-10-15 at 11:22. Reason: Balance is nice, but repetition is not |

I love Pages and I await more updates. I get to test iWork on the job and if it gets upgraded I get upgraded. I hope that we get more than just a spreadsheet app with the next revision. Mile 1 |

If such a thing happens, expect it to come out at MWSF. There won't be any significant hardware upgrades in January, so that event will be all about software.

Actually the PB's came out on January 31st. However, stuff usually does come out around January. For example, in 2003 there was about 5 weeks of stuff coming out every Tuesday.
As for iWork, expect an update at MWSF. It looks like they're trying to turn it into some sort of yearly-update thing like iLife. Especially since it looks like an iLife counterpart, what with the similar boxes and all. |
