I'm really looking forward to getting a Mac Mini. Hopefully I'll be able to get my hands on one in about 4-6 weeks. Here's the question, though: can I get the education discount at the Apple store? I don't want to buy online and wait for-freaking-ever to get the damn thing to my house. I want to be able to go pick it up at the local Apple store and have it at home that day.

My other question is this: I would like to get the 1.42 GHz model with the Super Drive. Is there a snowball's chance in hell that they'll have one at the Apple Store (or that I'd be able to upgrade it there for the standard BTO price)?

I was talking to an Apple Store Employee a few weeks back and he said I'd have to go online for a 1.42 GHz with a Superdrive.

But I'd like to know about the educational discount as well.

Any Ideas?

When I bought my mini about a month ago, they had three models in stock... the stock 1.25 GHz and 1.42 GHz ones, and a 1.42 GHz model with 512 MB of RAM, a Superdrive, and both wireless options built in. They also said they could add either RAM or the wireless packages in-store.

Why don't you just ask your local Apple store though? I have no clue whether the one you're going to will have that same configuration available.

You should be able to get the edu discount on hardware at the retail stores. No discount on software though.

Kinda offtopic, i know... But if I go to the Apple Store on the 29th with my college ID, they won't give me the edu price for Tiger?

Retail stores only give edu discounts on hardware. Discounted software is fulfilled online only.

Don't forget that many college bookstores will be carrying Tiger on the 29th as well. Ours is actually opening an hour early and is taking phone reservations just for Tiger's release.

Well, this sucks. lol. I was planning on doing all the release festivities at the Apple Store, and then purchasing my copy. Guess I'll have to preorder online and just show up in the store for the unveiling.

Hmm... I also need to get an Applecare for iPod. Will they give me edu discount in-store for that? Its not really hardware or software.

I believe that they do give edu discounts for Applecare in-store. IIRC, that's how I got mine.

Okay then, but what exactly would they want from me to prove my eligiblity?

EDIT: btw, I'm a 17-year old high school student that is lucky enough to do IT for the school district (so I'm an employee :smokey: )

Proof of ID such as your Drivers License, and proof of your student status such as student ID, printed class schedule, etc.

EDIT - a paystub or paycheck should verify your employment status

Thanks!

I'll enjoy the look on the Apple Store Employee's face when I show 'em my pay stub
