Okay, here's the deal. In my work I am on the internet the whole time. I work in front of a computer, and between work-tasks I end up with a lot of time to surf the net. I have, however, found that the internet has become extremely boring to me. I have about 10 sites that I cycle through to check for updated information. Basically, I am getting sick of the sites. I come here and pass a lot of time reading others' posts, but between thread updates there are no other sites left that I want to pass time on.

So basically, between calls at work the time goes so slow because I have nothing cool to view on the internet. So, what are some cool sites that you all have come across? Besides forums, where are some good places to go and waste a few hours? Yeah, I want some advice, but also it'd be cool to hear about what other things mac-users are in to.

(I'm not doing this to bring spam in. If it's a problem, I have no problems if you lock this thread.)

engadget.com: Gadget news, new story every couple hours

liveplasma.com: music/movie discovery engine

urbandictionary.com: slang dictionary... very funny at times

shockwave.com: great online games; Inklink is like MMO pictionary

yahoo.com/games: pool is the best.

theonion.com: America's Finest News Source™

weebls-stuff.com: great flash toons, especially Salad Fingers

Well, since everyone is giving me some sites, (and I'm sure you all cycle through them often) let me give you the sites that I cycle through, and see if they are interesting to you...

wikipedia.org - always up to date. I click on "random article" to learn about something new.

iLounge.com - I have gotten sick of it, but it was good to keep me busy until I read the whole thing. I like to read the reviews of the iPod accessories.

snopes.com - talks about urban legends and if they're true or not

onegoodmove.com - to watch "The Daily Show" in quicktime when on my Mac. (I hate streamed video, so I prefer to go here as opposed to the show's site, which uses WMP)

I can stay busy on ESPN.com for a while

And of course, there're the millions of news sites out there...

Truthfully I could use a couple extra top-notch sites to view each week. The news sites / Mac sites get old quick. I suppose Wikipedia is a very cool site. My only gripe with it is that you can't really rely on it for anything with a historical context. But for scientific stuff or general information it's pretty dern cool.

TSN.ca will be back on my hotlist now that hockey is starting to get its act together again. ESPN lost me a long time ago.

Yep, TSN.ca is getting a lot of hits from me lately. But if you're not a filthy hockey whore, don't bother.

CBC.ca is good for wasting time....if you're Canadian.

I can't think of any other. I guess the internet sucks.

Obviously forums.applenova.com . News sites - http://news.bbc.co.uk , www.lemonde.fr, www.tagesschau.de

Worth saying in a thread like this that RSS does make it very straightforward to manage your say top 20 sites. Although Safari is now RSS enabled, a good newsreader like NewsFire is indispensable to my mind.

Well, this isn't a specific web site, but it's kinda fun to spend time just looking around for "owned" pictures.

Found this a couple days ago...

I am in shock and awe that no one has mentioned ArsTechnica.

Other ones I frequent that no one has mentioned include:
news.google.com
www.macupdate.com
howstuffworks.com
www.homestarrunner.com
www.ocremix.org
www.vgmix.com

Hmm... that's all I can remember without looking at my bookmarks at home.

Get out of that job TODAY!

Why twiddle your thumbs and waste your time when you could be doing something that takes all your energy and thoughts.

NEVER work on a job that you don't love and doesn't tax your ability to the limits. Life can be so exciting that it's a blast or it can be a bore.

Your choice!

I'm 70 and retired so I worked many years. Went like hell, did well and enjoyed it. Saw lots of people drag their asses to a boring job every day just because they never gave it any thought or found excuses why they couldn't do anything else at that moment.

Don't make the same mistake .......

Thanks for the advice Holbox. Yeah, I'm definitely not going to do this for the rest of my life. I'm actually just a college student right now, so this is just a job to pay the bills

It's a good job for me now, pays well, the hours are good, and it's not too stressful. It's not as slow as it sounds. I do technical support. When I'm actually talking to people who call in, it's cool to be able to help people solve their computer problems. But other than that, in it's slow moments it sucks.

I've got a while before I get into my permanent career field.

I really do appreciate the advice though! Thanks.

Dude, the internet is an endless supply of porn. Use it wisely

If your work doesn't let you look at boobies, quit in a fit of rage, it's the only way.

Can you imagine? Running out of the building screaming "I want my porn and you all are keeping me down! No one here understands my potential!" as everyone just stares...

AN, CNet News, eBay, F@H Stats, Online Shopping (Unlike my wife I don't enjoy going to the store), Consumer Reports.org, pricewatch.com

Then others as the need is there...

Oh cool - they have B-17 training films. My grandpa was a career Air Force officer, got his start in the pilot's seat of B-17s during WWII, stationed out of Polebrook UK.
