I was wondering what people use for AIM clients. I've been using the standard issue AIM client from AOL, but the bloatware's gotta go.

I'm looking for something simple that likes groups

Thanks, Brad. I thought I was going crazy when I went to edit the post and it was right. I was very confused for a moment.

Let me share another view with you. AdiumX is awesome.

Let me share another view with you...

Luca: Proteus is the best! It doesn't mess with your buddy lists, I hate adium.

LOL well it's true! I don't "hate" Adium but the way it messes with my groups makes it essentially unusable. Even when I delete all my groups and throw all my buddies into a single group it still has vestigial groups or something. Totally messed up.

I like Adium's interface and customization more than Proteus. When/if they fix all the bugs I might consider it again. The fact that Adium is free and Proteus isn't is enough to keep me from registering Proteus in the hope that Adium will make it over my threshold of usability. Proper management of groups is all I ask. Then I'll start using it again.

FWIW, Luca, it would benefit everyone if you posted your experiences and problems with Adium on the Adium forums. After all, they can't fix what they don't know about.

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.

So it's clear to scroud, Adium handles the buddy list and groups normally for the majority of people. However for a decent number it seems have troubles for some reason.

Adium is nice with all the little groupy thingies and customization, but I use iChat (with iSight), simply put nothing beats it for vid conf.. and with tiger that gap is only going to get bigger until the others do a whole whole heap of catch up.
