So due to an unfortunate turn of events, I find myself in the fortunate position of having to buy a new computer pronto. Focusing on the iMac 20", a local Apple store has a floor demo of the current model that they will sell for $1,479. It doesn't include a box but includes everything else that should come with (as well as warranty as if new). I will buy AppleCare as well.

So the big question is this - I could buy from Amazon for $1,599 after rebate or even use the education discount for the same price. Is the difference in price on the floor model worth it or am I buying a potential problem?

I'd welcome other's thoughts, experiences, and responses on whether this is a good or bad deal.

Thanks!

Scott

Floor models can take a lot of abuse, and they get very HEAVY usage. I'd be wary of buying one unless it had only been out for a short time.

Thanks - that's good advice. I'm going to look at the iMac tomorrow. Anything in particular I can look for to check for abuse and/or prone to problems based on excessive use?

personally, I would just pay the extra $120 if your gonna spend that kinda money anyway. that way you would get peace of mind and you know youre getting an unabused machine.

I Was in Costco the other day and noticed they had G5 iMac in the upper $1400's and the sign with the price said three year waranty so i take it that Apple Care is included. i can't remember the exact price it might be worth it to take a look if theres a Costco in your area
good luck whatever you decide.
