A friend of mine who lives in East Toledo (yes it's a place!!!) told me today that the original host of his various personal websites was bought by GoDaddy and that this week he was informed that they'll be moving email for his sites to Open Exchange.

He has a lot of email addresses from his various online larks like Buccaneer Ballooza and the Paper Container Con, and is concerned that maintaining all these email addresses will be an expensive mess.

I told him that I really understood his dilemma as if it were happening to ME and that I would reach out to some smart people who might be able to let him know if Open Exchange was acceptable and what other options he might have.

((In case you didn't get it, you folks are the "smart people" that I mentioned to him))

I think what they mean is GoDaddy will switch the e-mail server software to be Open-Xchange?

Yeah, for you it shouldn't mean you need to change much of anything if you're using DNS to get your email clients talking. So if your email client points to mail.papercontainercon.com then that will point to the new email server. What you might be forced to do is reset all your passwords for those email accounts. If that is the case, then it would be follow the guide they send you to update it in the service portal and then your clients.

Hopefully they won't charge you more to host the email since they are taking it over.

From what I'm seeing of Open-Xchange it doesn't look bad. It simplifies administration for the host which typically means better service for you.
