I have a small nailer my mom gave me. I'll have to see what size it takes. It is a finishing nailer so it might be able to handle something that could tack this together. Then again, I know my family and I'm not sure it would hold up right.

Thanks for the tip on cedar. I was thinking more like pine that can handle it without splitting while it is still moist.

Got the new carcass, correct dimensions this time, built for my coffee bar cabinet. The middle dado is so I can install a divider. I couldn't trust my saw, so I made the bottom wider so I had some room to play with and get it squared up.



And speaking of not being able to trust my saw, I pulled the trigger on this beast today:



Goodbye to constantly fighting to keep my fence square, the stupid aluminum top that wasn't flat, the plastic throats-late that would flex and mess up my dados, I'm done with all of it and moving on to a real saw!

Very nice! Maybe later I'll post a picture of my very old table saw. It was a hand-me-down that is generally fine for my work... just not great.

Honestly, any one of the delta contractor saws listed on Facebook would have been fine for me, but I don't like the open back where I'd have to work to build a hacky enclosure to catch dust. This one is a hybrid and it's enclosed, dust drops out a 4" opening in the bottom and I can hook an elbow and adapter to my shop vac to catch most of it there.

Tradesman 10" is what I have. Looks like it was sold at Lowes. It isn't portable but I carry it in and out of my basement when I want to use it. I took the guard off long ago so mine actually looks like the one in the picture.

I can completely understand, removing the blade guard, however, make sure that the riving knife stays where it is behind the blade. There is no reason to remove it, unless you are using a dado stack. It is the most important part of the tablesaw to prevent kickbacks

Hmmm... hadn't thought about that. I've just been extra careful about the cutting process to prevent it. Pushers and all when the board gets so long. I'll have to see about digging that thing up and put it back I guess.

What the riving knife does is keep the two pieces of wood apart after the cut so there is very little chance that the blade can catch and lift the wood.

Yeah, after you pointed that out it kinda makes sense. I've had to be super diligent about not letting them flex into each other or the piece between the blade and the guide move laterally.

It is even more fun when I'm using the pusher to keep the board square. It sits to the side so keeping it from torquing is always fun. I also stand to the side of my saw when cutting...

Yeah, I should find that thing and put it back on.

Mine has saved me a couple of times when I was ripping some construction grade pine and cutting the board released tension, causing the kerf to close and pinch on the riving knife. If that had pinched the blade, the board would have launched

Thing was a pain in the ass to get home though. I couldn't have it delivered at my house, because my streets are all dug up, so I had it sent to my sister-in-law's house. I paid $35 for lift gate service, and the truck that arrived had no lift gate! So we had to lift it down off of the semi and then up into my minivan. Then drive back to my place and into my shop.

But it's here! I'll see if I can get a cut made with it tonight!

It would be good practice for getting depth right so the sides are flush though... so there is that.

He kinda is. But I always go back and watch his stuff. Kinda the Everyman/regular guy approach/tone, which I often need. Some folks, the super high-end types, often leave me in the dust. I don’t have the tools or skills to keep up. So I have to watch goofballs.

I like his channel and podcast a lot. I saw someone on reddit say this about him, and I fully agree: Steve Ramsey - You can do anything with $20, a GRR-Ripper, and a smile.

I love my GRR-Ripper, but I hate that I have to choose between the blade guard and push block.

Heat today was excruciating. I’ve got the second cabinet completed and the face frame complete but not fully attached.

I got my drawer slides today and got started making a prototype drawer to make sure I was precise enough with all my clearances to get it to fit, but then the heat was getting to me.

I did some things!







I had a few staples go through where there was a knot in the wood and it steered around it. Not a big deal but the ones that I couldn't pop back out and redo I just pounded into the wood and covered in wood glue. It should be a problem and these aren't for sale. The hammer and Torx screwdriver were to knock back out the staples that didn't stay in the wood.

One is shorter than the other because I tried cutting the 40° and inverted it and ended up cutting a 60° angle. Oops. So I trimmed off the bottom so I could fit three boards on it and just put less space in the side boards. Looks good to me! Now Mrs T needs to decide on what kind of handles she wants.

nice, those are great! I have issues with nails blowing out the sides all the time too. An alternative is to use screws, but its so much pre drilling and screws are so expensive.

Project list:

Bedroom door. My son's bedroom door was peeling and tested positive for lead. I removed the door and am in the middle of painting a new one. Need to cut mortises for hinges and install a door handle before hanging the door.

Indoor climbing gym for my son. Basically, the frame of a loft bed with a ladder and rock wall and a slide. I'm sure he'll spend all winter climbing over the furniture while this gathers dust, but he might use it a bit

Front steps. Stringers are rotted and won't last another winter.

Various trim around the house. Old old house, has some bad trim that id like to replace if I can
