Im having a lot of trouble with AIM. It closes whenever I try to look at someones away message or profile... anyone else have this problem? It automaticly closes and askes me if i want to close, reopen, or report the problem... ive reported the problem a few times.

AIM hasn't been updated in years. It's bound to get buggy and stop working at some point. My suggestion would be to start using iChat, Adium, or Proteus instead. If you need a certain feature of AIM that none of the others have (such as a shared folder), you can always keep using it and just be careful not to view someone's profile.

same boat, when i first got my powerbook, i was using the official client aim and i was very hesitant to use adium. i had heard a lot of people swear by it so one day i tried it out and like everyone else says, i havent looked back. very stable program, just wish theyd add in videochat and work on profile characters some...

FYI, file transfer is to be massively improved upon the release of Adium 1.0. The developers have abandoned the shoddy Gaim libraries for the AIM portion and have switched to using the much more feature-rich and reliable Joscar library.

Of course, that means waiting for an official release (no current timeline) or building your own version from the SVN in the mean time.

Adium is by no means perfect, especially since it is still considered a beta release, but it does a lot of things better than AIM and iChat. I love the interface customization, it allows me to make my instant messenger client what I want it to be, rather than what someone thinks I want it to be. I'm all for a simplistic and minimalist UI, so that's what I go for. I'm excited to see where Adium goes next, it gets noticeably better with each release.
