My college starts on September 17th and I REALLY want to have an iPhone before it starts, because I have to commute to the college via a 40 minute ferry ride each way. In between classes and stuff, I can't come back home cause I live on the island (hence the ferry ride), so it would be awesome to have the iPhone.

I'd buy one right now if I knew that they won't be releasing a 16GB by September 25th. What are the chances of that happening?

I didnt expect a 30% price cut two months after launch... I'd say its anyones quess at this point. A 16gb iphone would now, after the 8gb cut, price in the market so anything is possible IMO.

Slim, IMO. Unless they're planning on introducing a 3G, 16GB iPhone as part of the European launch to fill a high end price slot (i.e. $599).

They would have just introduced a 16GB iPhone at the last event if that was the only difference they were going to make.

There will almost certainly be an update before Christmas (coinciding with the European launch beginning/mid November), but not within the next two weeks.

Anyway, the ferry/island thing proves that you are who everybody thinks you are. Second/third/n-th chance, anyone?

I don't knw what you guys are talkng about. But thanks for the advice. Since the school doesn't start till the 17th, and after that it's only one moreweek till the 25th, I think 'll ust see how I fare without the phone at first,an if I can wait a week, thenI will. But if they don't come out with anything new on the 25th, then i'll buy one.

My IP address get's reset every time I log in and out of my connection. It's a dynamic IP address. In fact, It was changed just a couple days ago.

I just googled SVC and got a nice hit, the Society of Vacuum Coaters. Sounds promising.

I wanna 16GB iPhone under the Chistmas tree. I think the chances are reasonable. I would be very surprised if they don't release the Euro-phone by then. Less certain is the capacity. In any event, I'll wait till the 16GB is available. I would sad to see it released 2 months after I lunge at the 8GB. But hey, 8GB might be enough for you, and it will certainly be cheaper than the 16GB when it is released.

My take is a 16GB model should've been released along with the price cut on the 8GB model and discontinuation of the 4GB model. Why? Because Apple has always been a good, better, best product lineup company with the exception of the iPod line which has morphed from good, better, best, to better, best.

I believe the 16GB model was delayed due to the power outage at the Samsung NAND plant in August. Once NAND supplies are stable again I fully expect a 16GB model. I also believe it will be out before Xmas.

Well, this isn't the "Speculation and Rumors" category, so I'll just add that there's no 16GB iPhone out now and none has been announced.

If the current hardware offerings aren't what you want, then don't buy. If they cost too much, don't buy. My advice, since you're posting in an advice forum and since it seems that you don't want to buy the current model is - don't buy one. Put your money back in your wallet and wipe the sweat off your brow.

Oh, and since this IS the advise forum? Pay the man the $20 to put all the jokes to bed. It'll be money well spent - it'll buy you some peace.
