Is anyone else familiar with Acme Made and their products? I just ordered the iCover
for a 12" PB, 12" iBook and 14" iBook and debating on if i should get the Slim Cargo and a cover for my 23" ACD. It looks nice and of good quality but until it gets here thats really not based on anything but wishful thinking.

What a creative name for their company. I have an idea, I'm going to make a car and call it the Yugo.

PS, as far as I know, the products from this particular ACME are of fine quality.

You do know that "acme" as a generic word has quite positive connotations right? Similarly, there are a lot of companies in just my area's Yellow Pages (business phone listings) that are called "Acme (something or other)".

The name didn't come from Road Runner cartoons. Indeed, I'm sure it was quite the opposite, e.g. that the creators of the cartoons saw how many companies out there used the name Acme, so they took that and ran with it for their own 'mail order catalog' brand.

Right. I think the ACME of Road Runner fame was an acronym for 'A Company Making Everything' (or something very close to that).

[edit]: Well there's a Wiki for everything now, isn't there? Apparently it's "A Company that Makes Everything". Close enough.

So it goes.

Wikipedia, as usual, knows all. It's also a real word, of course, as EngineJoe points out.

No disrespect intended, it just struck me as funny. They don't make anvils, do they?

I didn't say it's from Road Runner, I said the name is not very creative. I don't think there's any denying that.

Ah - I think what threw me off was your choice of "Yugo" for the car brand; Yugo's being of notoriously poor quality... I believed you were drawing a parallel along those lines between ACME in the RR cartoons and YUGO in the car industry.

I was sort of. When I hear "Acme" I personally think generic and poor quality, like the RR cartoons. But I know the name was around before the cartoon.

Acme has uncertain roots one of which is "A Company Making Everything" but it could also be seen as coming from the greek work Akme which means top or pinnacle
