Some of you already know this, but I wanted to share some good news with everybody here. Yesterday afternoon, my wife and I welcomed our daughter Eloise into our lives. She weighed 6 pounds, 8.7 ounces and she's 20 inches long. She's very well tempered right now, and she's a very happy little girl.

In my fatigued stupor, I misspelled her name when I e-mailed everybody in my department last night. That message then got forwarded to all 230+ employees where I work. Everyone there thinks I'm illiterate now. I work at a college.

I couldn't be prouder of my little girl, though. I'm taking a break from the hospital to give my dogs a little attention since we won't be coming home until tomorrow. My in-laws are staying at our house until we get home tomorrow.

Obviously, I might not be here as often for a little while.

I think everyone I know has misspelled their new child's name in that announcement email! I did and several good friends of mine did, as well. That's a sign we need to rest, I think.

One small bit of advice: Get her involved in organizing things. Any games or toys that involve structure and logic...round blocks into round holes...whatever. With any luck you'll avoid having the crazy Virgo daughter. Mercury is a harsh mistress. Get her on the cerebral track and everything will be awesome and she'll make you proud. Otherwise she's eventually going to burn down your house.

I tried a few, and none of them looked right.

I wanted something between "This is going to be great!" and "You are so fucked!" ... so, plain 'ol Mr. Smile it is. Think of him as a stressed smiley, I guess.

Congrats again! How do you pronounce the name (I've been terrible with pronunciation for my entire life due to a shitty left ear so I read it and am at a loss)?

Thanks everybody. We've been home for about @ hours now, and we're all doing great. She's starting to be more active and fussy, so I'm sure we'll be up a lot tonight.
