I just ordered one.
13" M1 MacBook Pro with 16 GB RAM and 1TB SSD. Definitely needed a notebook to replace the 2019 MBP that my wife is now using. She wanted it for work, so I gave it to her and I've been using a combination of my iMac and iPad Pro to get things done. Works pretty well, but I really miss a notebook when at a client's office or out in the city. A little disappointed that this is the low end MBP replacement and not the high end one. I specifically ordered the 4 port MBP last year to get the permanence gains, but this one seems like it should at the very least match that one. Plus, I'm using it for email and Google Docs 97% of the time anyway, so I think it'll be more than sufficient. Was kind of hoping for a slight redesign, or at least add a color option, but it seems like that's going to wait for the next generation at least. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

I'm not feeling bad about my 2019 13" MBP...yet.
Anyway, I need to run Windows for Bluebeam and some specialist software. |

Butthurt x86 folks are rightly pointing out that these metrics are not necessarily real world, as in, the limitations of the ARM architecture vs x86 are not fully apparent in artificial tests.

Other than that, I think these scores are quite representative. (Also, their "topology" of "1 Processor, 8 Cores" is increasingly silly, especially on complex scenarios like a recent Snapdragon with three different types of cores.) |

I'm sure the performance is going to be great regardless. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

Get one of these things and you'll forget all about it.

I do have one of those already, but my wife stole it for the other MBP.
I really want one with multiple USB-C ports on it, but those ones seem to be a bit harder to find. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

There are no hubs with multiple USB-C ports that I’ve been able to find. Was buying USB-C stuff for a bit before I realized that without daisy chaining, I’m limited to 3-4 USB-C devices at a time vs a theoretical limit of 127 devices per USB1/2/3 port.

Here's the first more critical rundown of the M1 that I've seen. These are of course the sorts of problems we would expect to encounter during a chip shift, as the software shift happens.

Fortunately, not one thing in that article applies to me and my usage. So I’m good.

That article seems a bit off/uninformed in a few places. I don’t think the person writing it is particularly Apple/Mac-savvy, just in some of his wording and all. I could be wrong, but 5-6 “WTF?!” passages jumped out at me.
Nothing in his bio at the end of the Forbes article jumped out at me as him not viewing things through PC weinee goggles/filters (no offense meant to any present PC weinees, mind you; he just seemed to write/worry about a lot of stuff I don’t think a ton of Mac types obsess on or stress over). Somewhere between this guy and John Gruber probably resides some reasonable, grounded Apple pundit/journalist. |

We also got a lot of customers with Adobe Reader. I guess a lot of it is inertia, though. |

Regarding Edge, it is a chromium browser now so I can see wanting to use it on some sites. I don’t use chrome, so I get that.
Adobe reader is a strange one on the Mac though, you don’t need it at all. Preview opens PDFs, and you cannot write PDFs in the reader, so I don’t get why anyone would install it in the first place. I guess some people use it to fill in PDF forms? I use an alternative, so I don’t know. |

I am picking up the base 13" MBP from the Apple Store today to replace my Early 2015 13" MBP.
I was debating between picking up now vs waiting for the rumored 14" MBP or the M2 since it is a Gen 1 Apple product. I figured the 14" MBP would be replacing the 4 port 13" Intel MBP thus higher priced. While yes it is a Gen 1 Apple product, unlike past Gen 1 Apple products, these are very capable machines compared to Apple Watch Series 0, the first iPhone, and the first iPad. While I am sure I will be replacing this machine faster than I did with my 2015 due to only getting 8 GB of RAM, I am ok with that. I do view this machine as a short(er) term machine. Plus it is a swap in my replacement pipeline. I was waiting for A14X powered iPad Pro to replace my 2017 10.5" iPad Pro. With my usage pattern now shifting back to laptop vs tablet, and the $310 trade in value of my 2015 MBP, the cost is coming out to be the same and I feel no need to replace the iPad at this point now. giggity |

Cool. Let us know your real-world thoughts on its performance/speed, etc.
I keep looking forward to reviews/assessments by folks I "know", vs. all the online stuff written by those who may, or may not, have an agenda or any reasons to shade the truth, exaggerate or view things strictly through rose-colored glasses. The word of "regular Joe" often carries more weight with me on certain things. |

I agree with the reviewers having an agenda. People like to quote Max Tech a lot, but I am not sure on their objectivity. They seem like huge Apple fanboys. I know Linus gets a lot of hate from Apple Fanboys, but the more I watch his content, the more I like it. Sure there are areas I disagree with LTT simply due to different viewpoints of what I want out of a computer, but he does give Apple a lot of credit when they do things right and flak for the crap they pull. And he is impressed by the M1 Macs. giggity |

I just think, and it's human nature and not hard to understand, but those who've worked their way up into Apple's good graces aren't going to want to wreck that at this point, and lose access to Timmy's inner sanctum and all. Totally understandable, but it means I can't always put full faith in things they write or say.
The perspective from "man on the street" is helpful because they've got nothing to lose/maintain, and they laid out their own hard-earned money for the thing. Their opinions/thoughts are going to matter a lot to me, because...I'm them/they're me. Nobody's sending me free shit, or inviting me to California or NYC to get an early peek at unreleased goodies. I'm just a regular schmo in the trenches. I take in all sides/accounts, but it's foolish - dangerous, even - to rely solely on one. Even if it's one you always agree with or who see things your way. That's no good either. I'll take the ugly, painful truth over a beautiful, soothing lie...any day. |
