AIM, ever since it was first installed, constantly quits. I called Apple and the guy told me it was my network kicking me off, but that doesn't seem to be true....I've used my computer on several wired and wireless networks and AIM quits on all of them. Here's what happens: I'll be online, and randomly, the program will quit, I get an error message that says AIM unexpectedly quit, and "recovered files" appears in the trash. In crash reporter, each time it says "thread 0 crashed."

anyone have ANY info or solutions to this problem? i'm running Tiger on the latest revision 17" powerbook (bought back in march). everything else works perfectly, except for AIM. if you need more info let me know, thanks for any help!

Have you reinstalled it or trashed the .plist?

Sure. There are two Library folders on your HD; one for the System and one for your profile. In each of those folders is another folder called Preferences.

Inside you will find a whole bunch of files with the ending .plist. These files hold all of your preferences for the programs they are associated with.

What you want to do is find the one that is for AIM and delete it. The next time you open AIM, it will be like opening it for the first time on a new machine. The .plist will return and will hopefully fix your problem.

And you dont have to worry about deleting the wrong .plist. They will return the next time you open the program they are associated with.

Hope this helps.

As I'm sure many here would point out, another solution would be to ditch the official AIM client (which sucks) and use Adium. It is a third party AIM client (that also works with other IM services, like MSN messenger) that has a nicer interface and far more fun features than AOL's official OS X AIM client. When I first started using OS X a few years ago, I posted with a similar problem. I was pointed to Adium (which has come a long way from then) and have never looked back.

Are you going to sleep in between when you start the app and when it crashes?

And yeah, adium is good.

No problem, glad I could help.

I think you will enjoy Adium much more than AIM.
