I wouldn't mind picking an older Dual 2.0 G5...it's fast enough for my needs...but the refurbished prices are still quite high.
Do you think they'll go down once these new Power Macs get into the distribution chain?

I don't know... the deals seem pretty good at the moment. It's $1,499 for a dual 1.8 GHz G5 with plain PCI slots, and $1,649 for a dual 2.0 GHz G5 with PCI-X and a full 8 RAM slots. Those seem like good deals to me.

You might look around on eBay or the buy/sell forums at MacNN and AnandTech to find a better deal.

Thanks, these must have just come on in the last day or so.
That PCI-X Dual 2.0 seems like a good buy.

Dumb question, but is that PCI-X the same as PCI Express?
And if so, did Apple go from PCI-X to PCI and now back to PCI-X?

No, they're completely different and incompatible.

I've noticed that Apple doesn't seem to be selling new "outdated" stuff in their Special Deals section anymore. They have lots of refurbished stuff, but if you were to go to their site right after a product update, you used to be able to buy a new old Mac.

I would have probably picked up an iPod mini, for instance, and I'd also probably be considering an eMac right now. But no dice.

The iPod mini was on there for a while, for great prices.
