Nice. I would probably turn the shadow on for the text because it renders much crisper if you do. Except that it then has a shadow, if you don't want one. (I wish GeekTool's shadow worked the same way as CSS with complete control over the color, spread and position. You could turn it to 0,0,0 and make it not show up, yet the text would render smoother.)

Oh, you were so right. I never tried the shadows, but that does make the text much sharper. I don't actually really notice that the shadows are there because I'm using such a light background. I'm really pleased with the way it looks now. Thanks!
Now I just need to think of a few more things I can use it for. Here's my (slightly) modified version: Last edited by Wyatt : 2009-09-06 at 20:06. |

I switched from Mac to PC at work (was the only Mac out of 30). I would need a sad mac face wallpaper but I can't find any. Anybody got this ?

Lol, I was hoping for a more OSX version (finder face) but I guess that could do it
What's that anyway? An Apple II error? But thx Brad, I think I'll make one with the first one. I'll post the result. Dave Mustaine :"God created whammy bars for people who don't know how to solo." |

That's the "Sad Mac" error! You get that on any Old World ROM Mac if it has serious problems at boot time. The only times I ever ran across the Sad Mac icon was using an emulator like vMac; I never saw one IRL despite having several Old World Macs. The icon itself is of an original-style Macintosh, just the unhappy version of the Happy Mac icon that normally accompanied boot. (full size of this poster, among others) I guess you didn't know there was actually such a thing as a "Sad Mac" icon? Kids these days... The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. Ah, I have fond memories of the Happy/Sad Macs, and the bomb. Playing Enchanted Scepters, having errors occur just as I'm about to finally make it through the pyramid almost felt like part of the game play. Every move felt like rolling the dice - will the game crash, or will the voodoo doctor suddenly pop up and kill me again? Where is that last scepter, anyway? Why aren't there still Hypercard games?

Brad: I think/hope dmegatool was referring to the
0000000F 00000003 bit, as the Apple ][ error. I don't know what that is. But surely nobody could not know about Sad/Happy Mac? And how could a Sad Mac icon, which is a picture of a Mac, be on the Apple ][ that predates it? |

I'm giving a no-icon desktop a shot. It's a huge shift from using GeekTool, but I'm liking it so far. In my dock, I only have Finder, Safari, Mail and TextWrangler on the app side and stacks for my home folder, applications and downloads. It's a little strange at first, but I'm getting used to it. I'm pretty much using the Applications stack and spotlight as my app launcher, and I'm just opening Finder to browse for files. I do that rarely enough anyway that I don't mind the extra click. |

http://files.caffeinated.se/index.ph...Page=3&Search= I forgot to mention in my last post that I found a great new place for wallpapers yesterday in Dan Rubin's twitter feed. It's called Simple Desktops, and it's great for people who love minimalist wallpapers. I downloaded a bunch of them yesterday. |

Thought I would share my simple desktop with you.
I actually have a second monitor hooked up which I use to view my e-mail and Twitter feeds as well as iCal. |
