Seriously... i mean Vanilla Ice Cream and Root Beer are good by themselves, don't get me wrong, but put them together and WOW. What gives? Who discovered this magical concoction? How does such a heavenly combination exist?

I'd go for the basic premise of this thread if it was Pepsi or Coke and ice cream. Root Beer is yukky! I think it tastes like medicine.
My wife likes it though.

Anyone who prefers a Pepsi or Coke float over a root beer float deserves a kick in the head.

Present company not excluded.

I think Root Beer is one of those things like Marmite or Vegimite.
You are either a lover or a hater.

Orange sodas are good, root beer sodas are better, Coke sodas are really nice, but a chocolate syrup/Coke/vanilla ice cream float?

Heaven.

To be honest, I'm more of a root beer milkshake fan, myself. Don't get me wrong, I love a good float as much as anyone, but between the two, I'll take the one with even more ice-creamy goodness.

A Pepsi float, scratt? I was under the impression you had some standards....

Root beer floats are special.

(And, Marmite is gross; Vegimite, quite nice! Just kidding, they're both yummy although being one who did not grow up with either I'd give V the nod. )

Only a Vernor's float (otherwise known as a Boston Cooler) beats a Root Beer float for sheer yumminess. Coke comes in third. Pepsi is disgusting so I don't even.

So it goes.

I love me some Sprecher's root beer. Also love root beer floats, especially when you get the ingredients so cold that a little icy crust fleetingly forms on the ice cream.

root beer floats are awesome. and while chocolate coke floats are unique enough to force me to purchase one whenever i encounter it, they aren't as intrinsically good as root beer floats.

as for root beer tasting like medicine, perhaps scratt has only had bad root beer...

About once a year, out of the blue (literally...I don't think I've ever consumed two root beers in a 365-day stretch), I'll crave one for some reason. I'll stop at a convenience store and try to find an A&W or IBC(?). I drink it (I usually don't even finish the entire thing) and I've received my root beer fix for the year.

FWIW, I've yet to have one in 2010. It's a weird craving that just hits all at once, and that's all I want to drink at that moment. Might hit me later today. Might hit me during Christmas. I have no idea.

I've never had a root beer float, or even a Coke float.

Oh, and Pepsi is the devil. Everybody knows this.

i implore you, go out to the grocery store, get an IBC (or whatever root beer tickles your fancy) and your favorite vanilla ice cream. Put a few scoops in a glass at home, get a long spoon and a straw, and go to town on that bad boy. top it off with some whipped cream if you're really feeling ambitious

I have a friend who's going to OH on vacation next month and he's googling away to find every remaining A&W restaurant along the way. I may have to whip myself up a float tonight to give me energy for band practice!

Order The Best of Men at Work in the next 10 Minutes and get a FREE vegemite sandwich! (Hurry, quantities limited.)

As to the nature of Root Beer and Ice Cream, his noodly appendages work in strange ways. Do not question; just enjoy. If you must question, then I suggest you do it on Capt. Drew's Social Networking Q&A Page of Power.

Been a while since i had a root beer float. I think they are awesome when done properly.

Regarding Coke and Pepsi: Here's the solution to this silly debate. Buy both, mix in equal proportion and find they taste better than one or other.

Man, it's been years since I had a rootbeer float. I might have to grab myself one this weekend.

My solution for the coke vs pepsi dilemma: I quit drinking pop this year. Problem solved.

Disclosure (and admitting my idiocy): when I first heard their song "Down Under" (actually, I saw the video on MTV about 52 times a day, you know...back when MTV used to do that sort of thing?). Anyway, so I'm in, what, junior high or high school (1982 or thereabouts, so I was about 13 or so) and that part in the video where he goes into the store and orders the sandwich...

There was no Internet or easy lyrics lookup back then, so, for years, I thought he sang "...he just smiled and gave me a bit of my sandwich...".

Which makes absolutely no sense, really...why is someone else giving you (the singer) a bit of your own sandwich?

I just chalked it up to nutty Aussies writing quirky lyrics.

"That must mean something down there...".

It was years before I knew the real lyrics, and realized what Vegemite was.

I had no clue they were singing about vegemite sandwiches until a couple years ago either.

*Yep, I don't like root beer.

I had one today, I don't know what kind of root beer it was, but it was a frozen vanilla custard root beer float.

As Dave Chapelle playing Samuel L Jackson once said, "MMM MMM, bitch!"

Dude, there are numerous songs from when I was a kid where I had no idea what the vocalist was saying so I just substituted the nearest words. This is what happens when you try to decipher the words of a person who is half stoned / drunk when they record albums. To this day, I still can't figure out what the hell that one song is saying... you know the one...

"Mama told me never look into the eyes of the sun [or something]... but mama that's where the fun is...

someone is running somewhere like a dewshin' in the middle of the night...."

[Dewshin'? Dewshin' what?... dewshin' whore?]

That song. WTF is that guy saying?!

"Blinded by the Light"? No idea. I think (99% sure) Springsteen wrote it, but the version that's always on the radio is Manfred Mann.

"Deuce"? But he puts a heavy "sh" on the end, sure enough.

Hey...this would actually make a cool thread! Have we ever covered misheard lyrics here?

"Takin' Care of Biscuits"

I was four. I didn't know what "business" was. But I had biscuits in the morning all the time. So that had to be the word used!
