Which is something that happens a few days before updates to the site occur, what might be coming this week.

Anyone want to speculate

I would, but I can't think of anything. Not time for PowerBook or iBook updates. The iMac won't be out for another three weeks. The PMs were updated not too long ago. If anything, it's a minor speedbump for the eMacs, but even that I doubt.

Obviously it's not iPods. Could it be Motion?

Of course it might be nothing, but only time will tell.

I say motion if anything. The ibooks are closing in on its due date of being updated(taking from macrumors buyers guide). But, ibooks have about 44 days left before being don't buy. The emac has a long way to go still before being due.

The iBook and PowerBooks still have about 2 months before updates.

iMac in 3 weeks and a couple days.

Doom 3? But I don't see why they'd have to take down the whole store just to add it.

could it have just be run-of-the-mill maintenance?

Probably. But it's way more fun to speculate wildly!

You spazzes, it's SUNDAY...what product gets announced today? Nothing. It's probably maintenance and whatnot.

Ah! But from those of us who spaz, I might add that there is often a brief outage several days before a release of some kind,. Yes, this may just be for maintenance, but then again...

I think its because they know we'll go crazy with wild speculation.

How new is that "Try our New Search" feature on the upper left of the Apple Store?

Is that the reason it might have been down?

Granted, I haven't checked the store lately, since I'm dirt poor.

The new search has been there for at least a week, probably a little more.

It's probably just maintenance...I don't know what Apple would release between now and the event on August 31st...other than Motion.

Wait a minute, Steve Jobs is probably bored ragged laid up in his hospital bed and is up to date on every Mac rumour site there is.

He probably called one of his lackeys for a "favour" and asked him to take the store down for half an hour knowing we'd all be talking about it!

In one swift move, he now has another 2 days entertainment

Maybe it's...*gasp*...something new? I'm not saying OMG return of Cube/new eBook OMG! but maybe it's something more along the lines of AirPort Express.

Well, hey removed the PowerMac G4 section (they dumped the remaining units in the "Special Deals" section) and it now says "Buy now while supplies last" in RED letters! OMG!

Seriously, though, there's only 1 version left...1.25 GHz/ComboDrive/80GB/$1299. Is the price the same, or did the quietly drop it?

I'm kinda said that the PowerMac G4 is on the way out...not just because it was an awesome machine (and still is), but because Apple could really use a low-end desktop.

Oh, put a cork in it.

There's nothing wrong with the eMac. It's the iMac everyone of us - except Carol - would've given our left nut for a couple of years ago. And now it's at 1.25GHz, all the current I/O, runs the iLife stuff great, easy to add RAM and AirPort card too, comes with a SuperDrive option, flat 17" screen, etc. for less than a $1,000.

It's the best bang for the buck in Apple's entire line-up, hands down.

My friend Jon gets his today. He's a total PC networking kinda guy, but starting asking me a few weeks ago about Panther and OS X and Macs in general. He just wants something he can easily set up and get going and learn OS X on for his networking/troubleshooting little freelance stuff he does. I had no problem recommending that model to him. He himself said "I don't want to spend the money on a G5 and I don't really need a laptop...".

I told him about the upcoming G5-based iMac, but was looking to do this for under $1,000.

Apple just got another brand new - and enthusiastic - customer today, thanks to the eMac.

i agree one hundred per cent. it's a great machine at a great price. it's only drawback is that it doesn't have any great innovative design. other than iMacs great innovative design, just a bit swollen.
but head on and from a distance you think your looking at the last generation of apple displays. I noticed this in best buy's way of displaying them.
which leads me to wonder whether in the next update if they'll change the look to match the new displays.

Glad to see it finally made it out there for those of you who needed it.
