I'm going to upgrade my TV. I've currently got a 17" Samsung model with a DVI input and I'm going to upgrade to a 23" TV for use with my Xbox 360 and Sky box.
There's one problem though - this new TV doesn't have a DVI input! It only has HDMI or VGA. I'd love to keep the digital quality signal of DVI but if push came to shove I'd go back to VGA. Can my iMac output HDMI? It's the 17" Intel Core Duo model. |

Sure. You'd need the mini-DVI to DVI adaptor, and a (potentially expensive) DVI to HDMI converter.
How are you gonna plug the Sky box in, or does it have SCART as well? ...and all the wolves were found upside-down in a box! |

DVI-D to HDMI isn't that expensive, to be honest. About $40 for a reasonable one.

Remember, HDMI carries audio too, so if you can, find one with a mini-optical on it too for digital sound and video.
