I have obtained an installer for OS 9.2.2... how do I go about dual booting it on my iBook?

unless your Mac is an older model, it won't dual-boot. What it will do, is run OS 9.2.2 as part of the Classic environment, so that you can run (old) OS 9 software.

installation instructions here:

You're kidding... I can't outright install OS 9, even on a partition??

not on the system described in your sig.

why exactly do you need to boot OS 9, instead of just using it in Classic?

Because I've never used an actual OS 9 installation and wanted to know what it was like.

Classic doesnt have the Finder or anything else that I could see, only the menubar when a Classic program was opened.

You aren't missing much. There's some nostalgia value for us old-hands, but since you've never used OS 9, there wouldn't be any nostalgia for you.

well if you want to experience the feeling bad enough, you can always do some shopping here for an older iMac or something.
