https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250858918 seems to describe my issue exactly. Most irritating.

It's a bit of a firehose of info. No references to the filenames of the files I'm trying to open. Plenty of "Faults" though. Like, a constant stream.

If I get everything else to calm down, the issue seems to trigger a small cascade of faults in runningboardd, filecoordinationd and diagnostics_agent.

Is your desktop synced to iCloud Drive?

Also, does it go away if you force-quit filecoordinationd?

Desktop is not synced.

I'll try the force quit next time it happens.

And split. Hope you locate the problem. Chucker knows what he's doing.

Sometimes.

I'm curious, what is the drive formatted with on your machine Bryson? APFS, Mac OS Extended? Wondering if the format type has anything to do with it.

It's APFS. And there's a NTFS partition for Boot Camp / Parallels.

I do ask a lot of this machine. It's a Early 2015 13-inch MBP, with two external monitors, and I run Parallels / Windows 10Pro pretty much constantly. (Thanks for discontinuing Bluebeam for Mac, Revu!) I just need it to make it until the smaller MBP gets the same makeover the 16-inch got!

(It's basically impossible to run Catalina on anything but APFS, FWIW. Mojave already made it mandatory but you could try and hack it, but Catalina's twin volume approach — one read-only, one for the user — makes that fairly hard to work on HFS+.)

Did you try the solution listed in that thread above? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203538
My wife's computer is having a similar issue. Annoying.

PS: this went away with no intervention from me. Never did work out what the issue was.

This is why I found removing the ability to repair permissions in disk utility manually a real pain. Can still do it in terminal, but for the average user that is scary.
