Just downloaded and installed iTunes 7.2...supposedly it allows you to download those DRM-free songs from the iTMS. I haven't noticed anything new yet, though. Maybe they let it out a few hours early? From the Help Viewer entry for iTunes store purchases:

Jobs is giving a speech this afternoon. I'm sure he'll make the announcement today and they'll be available shortly after.

You have to go under the Account link and enable iTunes Plus, just an FYI. Still haven't found any actual songs or vidoes at the new bitrate, but I'm sure they'll start tricking in this afternoon after Jobs' speech.

According to Engadget, iTunes Plus is now running. $0.30 to upgrade a song and about $3.00 to update an album.

I actually didn't 'enable' anything... I just clicked on the iTunes Plus link below Complete Your Album. Then, in the top right, it says if your library has stuff to upgrade. I don't have much stuff from the iTMS; I think there are only two EMI artists. The one I upgraded was Air's Moon Safari.

When you upgrade, does it delete the old DRM songs/albums?
What about play count? |

Great to see this, I just upgraded my Library and considering the price, vs. quality upgrade its worth it, IMO.

Amazing, they've figured out a way to have us pay for music "upgrades".
It is a brilliant business plan really. Every few years, jack up the quality and offer to sell people an upgrade. I could see the video download industry really getting behind this trend. Bit rate mongers could buy now without fear of it being a completely sunk investment. Hell, I wish my DVDs were upgradeable, they're such damn low resolution that I'd gladly pay a reasonable price to make them look better. |

Only 16 songs in my library were upgradeable...I thought I had more EMI tracks than that. Oh well.

Well I had 37. Much fewer than I thought considering I've got thousands of songs that I've purchased since the iTMS' inception.

Apple still needs one major feature: re-downloads. We should be able to download all our music again if something happens to our computer (or if we just get a new one). I'm sure they're tracking purchases, so why not let us download again? |

iTunes support is actually very responsive to questions/complaints. I know I've had to redownload a few things, but it was no problem. edit: I just want to say this makes me pretty happy, and I look forward to seeing more iTunes Plus songs for sale. The songs can be converted to MP3 without burning them too, which is nice. You had me at asl ....... Last edited by rasmits : 2007-05-30 at 12:47. |

I knew what you were doing -- I just wanted to point out what this thread will probably devolve into.

To be honest, I was very surprised I even had 43. I only have 1355 songs in my library and maybe 300 or so of those are from the iTunes Music Store.
Damn.. I've spent $300 on the store.. Where did all my money go!??!? |
