I love this thread. It's great to have somewhere to post random crap you find in the news. This one takes the biscuit:

Man forced to marry goat

Man found fucking a goat, goat's owner finds man fucking goat, and:

Quote:
"When I asked him: 'What are you doing there?', he fell off the back of the goat, so I captured and tied him up."

Mr Alifi then called elders to decide how to deal with the case.

"They said I should not take him to the police, but rather let him pay a dowry for my goat because he used it as his wife," Mr Alifi told the newspaper.
All I have to say about that is:

Omg. Remains of missing 9-year-old boy found inside dead crocodile.

http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/asiapc....ap/index.html

Quote:
The child, surnamed Liu, disappeared Friday after Liu and three other children climbed over the fence around a pool in the park that had been used to stage crocodile shows, Xinhua said.

"The children shot the animals with catapults and beat them with wooden sticks," the agency said. "One of the irritated crocodiles bit Liu's clothes and dragged him into water, where he was eaten by a swarm of crocodiles."

Almost hard to feel sorry for him. It's one thing to try and get close to a wild animal out of curiosity. Another all-together to try and get close so you can physically harm it. And of course the obligatory "where the fuck were the parents"... I really don't feel sorry for them because a) they didn't teach their kid common sense / respect for wild animals; and b) they obviously where nowhere to be found because no parent in their right mind would allow their kid into a friggin' crocodile pool area.

...into the light of a dark black night.

It seems like it was a school trip. But yeah, it's generally not wise to irritate crocodiles with sticks and stones

I believe that falls squarely under the "thinning the herd" heading..."natural selection" and all that; the dumb being weeded out of the gene pool, etc.

It's horrible a little boy died, but let's be reasonable: it wasn't like he was walking down the road minding his own business and a croc jumped out of a nearby pond and chased him down. No, this kid a) climbs a fence into a croc compound (aka "first mistake") and b) proceeds to beat/antagonize croc with sticks and rocks (the second, and final, error in judgement exhibited by the little Mensa candidate).

WTF do you think your typical crocodile is going to do under those circumstances? He's not seeing "cute, but dumb, little 9-year-old boy"...instead he sees "quick, easy brunch".

Don't blame the crocs.

I feel bad for the little guy and his parents, but come on...I reserve the bulk of my sympathy for folks who tragically buy the farm through no fault of their own (you know, like people sitting in a classroom on a college campus going about their day and so forth).

I've never gotten that whole thing. There have been some stories here locally lately about several numbnuts getting arrested on various "cruelty to animals" charges. I'm always stunned - and saddened - when I hear the details of what they did.

You just want to reach back and slap them absolutely shitless 8-10 times.

Anyone who can look at a little cute, defenseless puppy or kitten and the only thing that registers in their mind is "hey, let me get a rake and a firecracker!" need to be shipped off to an island.

Or have their eyes gouged out and their balls cut off. Hard to molest animals if you can't see them and have no testosterone raging in your system.

What on earth are you freaking out over?

4th graders on a zoo trip...too old? Too young? I think we went on a few field trips around that time (Huntsville Space Center, some nature/science place in Atlanta, the Post Office, a local bird sanctuary, etc.) back in my schoolboy days (mid/late 70's).

Or am I not picking up on some sarcasm or something?

They were probably there to learn about animals, habitats, endangered species, global warming killing polar bears, inter-species racism and sexual identity issues, etc...you know, legit modern-day school stuff.

Nobody ever dreamed the kid was going to go and climb a fence into the croc pen (and then proceed to antagonize the crocs). That's usually not something most people think to do.

Paul, I am freaking out at the thought of the teacher(s) who "organized" a field trip that ended with one of their students *inside of a crocodile*.

They might as well either open a vein, or try to flee the country on a midnight flight to Timbuktu.

It wasn't a field trip. It says right in the article that the children broke into the place. It also sounds like this was more like a croc park than a zoo.

So it goes.

I see now. It wasn't clear and I thought you were upset at the "fourth graders on a field trip" (because that's what you repeated, and augmented with mean smileys), so I wasn't making that connection.

But yeah, if this was an organized school outing of some sort it totally goes without saying that the higher-ups should've kept better tabs on the little adventurers.

Good!

Sometimes it takes being an international pariah to make people realize that trashing various countries' laws and doing exactly what you want *can* have lasting consequences.

In this case, he's losing a ton of money by being refused entry to these countries. When 'repercussions' start affecting the old bottom line, that does tend to get people's attention.

Perhaps other 'bad boy' entertainers will now realize that being a law-abiding citizen really 'can' have its benefits.

I doubt it.

As long as there's a buck to be made from "acting the part" - and enough people here stateside buy into it all - they won't be changing anything. International touring might fall off a bit, but that's probably it.

Boy, talk about misleading titles!!

Head Researchers turn their attention to beer

I thought it was going to be about how beer makes oral sex easier. Or something.

But, no, the "head" they're talking about is the foam cap on beer.

Still, it's got beer in it, so it's not a bad thing...but I got all excited for a moment thinking that I could increase my chances of having someone talk into my microphone...

L.A. Times sports writer announces that he's transsexual. After his vacation Mike Penner will return as Christine.

LINK!

I'd say it takes balls to do this but clearly it doesn't.

I guess I'm thinking of the hurt to 'black male pride' more than anything, Paul.

I would imagine that 'not' being allowed into entire countries you 'really' want to visit seems quite a personal affront.

They'll get over it. A case of Cristal and 4-5 hos is good for whatever ails you.

It isn't like Snoop or any of these others are going there for any cultural exchange, or going out to survey and enjoy the wilderness and rugged countryside and take in its scenic beauty and natural wonders. They'd most likely be doing in Sydney or Melbourne what they'd be doing in Dallas or Seattle: holed up in a hotel suite or club with some ridiculous 28-person entourage, drinking, dancing, maybe getting a scuffle or three, perhaps a little afterhours gunplay, smoking weed, preying on groupies, making phone calls/text messaging, smoking some more weed, getting arrested on weapons/drug charges, etc.

In any case, screw 'em. If they can't act right, a country has every right to say "nah, keep your punk ass out of here".

"Are you adding anything of value to the culture, or otherwise making a positive impact on your fellow citizens?"

"Awwww, hell no...I'm keepin' it real!"

"Then beat it!"

Yeah, well, 'we' can only do the bare legal minimum it seems, and we're lucky to manage even that.

Anything 'more', and we'd have yet another uproar about racial profiling, and would be subjected to even 'more' media appearances by Al Sharpton than we are now.

I'm just going by their record...quite a bit of legal brushes from Mr. Dogg over the years. More than I'd be allowed to have, I'm sure.

And they say fame doesn't buy you some breaks...

Lest anyone think I'm picking solely on Snoop and others from his particular genre, I feel the same way about other wastes-of-space of questionable talent like Scott Weiland, Pete Doherty, anyone who plays a seven-string guitar and growls into a microphone, etc. I wouldn't let some of these guys in my country either.

The Danish TV channel TV2 has just aired a news item about a striptease competition between some girls during a party at Silkeborg high school. A movie-clip was uploaded to Youtube, but was deleted after a couple of hours. If anyone are wondering why the teachers didn't stop them, it's because they where judging it. The students told TV2 that they where worried about whether this would restrict their freedom at future parties, and that they where dedicated to their education and that they liked their school very much. The offending uploaders had a talk with the principal, penalty pending...

For anyone who understands Danish, the story can be found at: www.nyheder.tv2.dk

We did have some pretty wild parties at my old high school, but unfortunately the girls kept their clothes on.
