I muted it almost immediately on playing this. Then I turned the volume almost completely down to see if ti really was that woman recording it. Then I unmated again for a very short period to see if it was still going on. I left it muted and enjoyed the video or a bear eating a woman's boat.

She's actually doing what she's supposed to do. Make loud, menacing noises to shoo the bear away. If she runs, the bear likely chases. If she gets more aggressive than *loud noises* the bear treats her as a threat rather than a nuisance.

Maybe she should have run to the bear's head and kept talking like she was the whole time!

Did I just watch a 10 minute video on plastic injection molding?

Yes. I sure did.

Another fan of The Engineer Guy! All of his stuff is just as good, and his voice and narration style would make even watching paint dry seem interesting.

Other great explanations of mundane objects:

How a Retractable Ballpoint Pen Works
The Ingenious Design of the Aluminum Beverage Can
Coffee Maker: Pumping water with no moving parts

I love stuff like that. It's why I can sit on a rainy Saturday and watch about 4,000 episodes of How It's Made.

The above video was so interesting and informative. I liked the narration, the animated infographics, etc. He wasn't trying to be all flashy or too-cool-for-school (which is the problem with a lot of hosts or presenters anymore). I'll hunker down and watch a bunch of others from this guy/series.

I like the spectator's excited "WHOO!" having just witnessed the backhoe being buried in tons of rubble and the possible death of the operator.

Same here. It's like the corrective for the shallow, glib "how do they do that" crap on the internet and TV. It's so frustrating to be actually interested in a given process and be presented with slick production values that manage to gloss over significant information, or explain things in a way that doesn't actually make anything clear. But when I'm watching the videos here, all my questions are answered and I can relax and enjoy the info. It's very satisfying.

It's like the difference between an excellent teacher and a mediocre one. The mediocre teacher has spotty or incomplete knowledge of the subject at hand, and at points must rely on "because I said so" or "that's what it says in the book" or just kind of faking it. If you have any questions that go beyond the presented material, you probably won't get useful answers. I had this happen in a class where I couldn't understand how space could expand "faster than light" and create a universe where we were "looking back in time" over vast distances. The instructor sort of hemmed and hawed and kept asserting the same few ideas, but it didn't at all answer my question.

But a good teacher has deep knowledge of the subject, and understands where confusion arises, and can put things in context-- the larger context that extends beyond what's being taught at any particular time. In my case, I eventually got to talk to an actual astrophysicist and had an enlightening discussion about the nature of space-time and how notions of velocity don't apply when the very fabric of space is the thing that is "moving."

Dude! That's gross. Not sure why you'd do such a long spam hibernation just to post boil porn. I'll leave it just to show everyone here how disgusting you are. It's not dirty or obscene folks, just a little like what an aerosol can of mayonnaise with a real big nozzle might look like.

As images and movies of the Pluto system are slowly released by the New Horizons team we can compare the projected versus actual

As for Wanderers... some of the imagery and imaginative scenes will take a little longer to validate.
There were scenes that reminded me of Retro SciFi Cover Art...
Paperbacks, Pulp, or Popular Mechanics/Science visions of 'Airships of the Future'...

This restaurant in Vegas was robbed and they used the security camera footage to make a really great ad.

Conan goes guitar-shopping, takes along some help. He's such an annoying ass.

These filmed bits of his are always - always - better than the actual show itself (which follows the same tired template of every other late-night talk show in existence). I'd love to have a a collection, organized by year/date, of all of these filmed, out-in-the-world bits over the past however many years he's been at it. Always seems to be more genuine laughs in these 5-8 minutes than in the rest of the hour.

In my week-long remembering/looking back of Prince (digging through old clips, songs, etc.), I came across this and remembered how much I loved it back in the day. I crushed on guitarist Wendy Melvin (yeah, yeah...I know; wouldn't be the first time, believe me ) so hard back in the 80's/90's (right up there with Susannah Hoffs and Jane Wielding ). So sexy in this video. And a great voice and player too. Love her solo!

"Waterfall" by Wendy and Lisa.

They're still around, Wendy and Lisa, doing TV scoring (they won an Emmy for their work on Nurse Jackie), releasing albums, performing, etc. I thought they brought so much to his band. I saw a story online where they announced the Revolution was going to reunite and stage some Prince tribute concerts. That might be kinda cool, but definitely bittersweet and missing a huge presence. Not sure how it'll go over, but might be interesting.

I was going to put this in the Mandelorian thread but it really goes here:
Ok, this isn't directly Mandelorian related but it is deep fake and Star Wars so I have to show it. Tobey Maguire as Darth Maul thanks to deep fake.

Not an amazing job, but better than Luke in the season 2 finale. I'm sure there was a tad smaller budget for this one too.

Okay. I have no idea why this popped up in my feed, but I'm sure Google will be feeding me plenty of "why you shouldn't blow up your animals" videos.
