I ordered an iMac 17" Intel Core Duo on Jan 14th with an estimated ship date of Jan 24th. This morning (25th) I received and email from apple stating:

We need your response to continue processing your order.

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following
item(s) by the last date you were quoted:

Z0CX0LL/A, IMAC 17/1.83/1GB/160GB/SD-USA
will now ship by Mar 09, 2006
and deliver by Mar 16, 2006

If you prefer, you may change or cancel your order anytime before it
is shipped. If you cancel your order, you will receive a prompt
refund.

If we do not hear from you or we cannot ship your order by the revised
date above, we are required by federal law to cancel your order and
issue a prompt refund, and we will do so.

I called the phone number included in the email and they said it was a system mistake, and the iMac should ship within a couple of days.

Has anyone heard anything more specific?

Well, I checked apple.com and they changed the ship date to Jan 27 (thank goodness). Order status is showing that it has shipped, but UPS tracking on Jan 28th states "THE AIRLINE OFF-LOADED PACKAGES CAUSING A DELAY."

My luck is terrible!

Hiram, that appears you've only asked for an upgrade of the RAM in your Mac. The process is simple - one of the easiest computers to do this to. Simply unscrew a little panel and slot the RAM in. Slide the panel back on and you're done.

Apple also charge ridiculous prices for doing this. You can get a 1GB stick from Crucial for the same price Apple will charge to add 512MB.

I suggest you cancel your order and get a default one - they are shipping "in 24 hours" on the Apple Store.

Actually, I checked Crucial and they were more expensive than Apple. I got the iMac with an education discount.

Apple - 1GB=$90 (single stick)
Crucial - 512MB=$120.59 or 1GB=$153.89

Wow, im glad i bought my ram the day after macworld from crucial...I paid $130 for a 1gig stick for my macbook. I would think you would be able to find other brands alot cheaper though. Apple's upgrade looks better now.
