My new laptop is a 15" Powerbook 100GB 7200 RPM HD. 512 MB RAM.
Now, I've recently tried installing KVR533D2S4 1GB PC2 4200 Kingston Ram to take me to 1.5 GB of RAM. Do I need to do anything other than pop the chip in there? I get random freezes in Safari, Screensaver, and Dashboard. I've tried the system with JUST the 1GB Kingston chip and i'm still having a problem. I've googled "KVR533D2S4 powerbook" and see that people are successfully using this ram. I also ran the "Remember" mem test without any reported errors. I plan on contacting Apple on Monday but was hoping someone here could provide some insight as to why I might be experiencing these issues. Perhaps a different solution for the memory upgrade? THANKS -phil |

hello,
i had the same issue. with the same 1 gig kingston ram you listed. in my new 17" powerbook. sorry to say, but it's the ram. i tried everything i could think of for the two weeks i've had this thing trying to figure out what was causing the freezes. (i was thinking it was software related) but, if you try taking out the kingston ram, i'm betting it won't freeze on you again. mine's been up for three days now with no freezes. i checked with kingston and the kvr533d2s4/1G chip is not listed as compatible with the new powerbooks. the one kingston model that theoretically works with our laptops is a different model number. and costs about $50 more. so, i've ordered another type of ram. bummer eh? i guess that's what i get for trying to be a cheapskate on ram for an expensive powerbook. haha. hope that helps- mike |
