My friend that administers the wireless network I'm using wants security and wants to allow only 3 comps to have access and I need to find my MAC address but I don't know where it is. Can someone please tell me how to find it?

My comp is an iBook 600 OSX 10.3.8 802.11B card.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

Or System Preferences -> Network. Double click on the "Airport" item. It'll say Airport ID: [MAC address].

Or printed under your battery, if it's anything like the Powerbooks.

Found it is system preferences>Network>Airport.

The Airport ID# consists of 6 pairs of numbers separated by colons and I am thinking that this is the MAC # I was looking for. (It looks like this:
xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx mostly numbers but with 3 letters mixed in).

If I choose: Network>TCP/IP I see an entry called: IP Address which has numbers in 4 groups of 2 or 3 digits each and separated by periods
(xx.xxx.xxx.xxx) and I'm guessing that this is Not the MAC address.

We should now be able to get it to work...with security, Thanks for the help.

That's it.

Random trivia:

That number is in hexadecimal, meaning it uses values 0-9 and A-F for each digit. With 12 digits, that gives a possible 12^16 (roughly 180 quadrillion) unique combinations. This seemingly high number is important because every single networked device in the world needs to have a unique MAC address.
