Awesome. $150 in a month. If we average that over the year, we'll hit $1800! That's enough to buy the brilliant mind behind this business scheme a new MBP, even after you cover costs.

Damn.

Great suggestion Tori. This is so much better than asking people to donate. We should have thought about taking Amazon's money a long time ago.

Great to see the expenses being covered by our purchases rather than out of the pockets of a few.

And if you use Cyclops (iPhone app), you can go into any store, take a picture of the bar code and it will scan it, then show you what it costs on Amazon, complete with a link to that item on Amazon.

I did that yesterday at Petco as I was buying some dog treats; $17.50 at Petco, $12.50 on Amazon.

Oops, for some reason thought it was $120 on the year. Soon we'll hit $240 though. def. before Christmas at this rate.

Well, I am. Look at you people, being "responsible" with your money and "only buying what you need." Pssh! This is the perfect excuse opportunity to go on a f'ing shopping spree. I expect all of you to buy at least three computers, two HDTVs, a new cell phone contract, and lots of other things (does Amazon sell cars?) by year's end. Don't have the money? Amazon gives away credit cards. What kind of Americans are you?

Just look at you all, caring about your "credit scores" when there's shit to buy. You're all so damn selfish.

That's odd. Meh. Consider yourself lucky, I guess. Store credit cards never seem to have very good rates.

Although, if you buy all the books you read, the Amazon Rewards might alone make it worth it for you

well you will see a couple of bucks taken back...and then added...

i bought a portable HD for my daughter at ASU...UPS tries to deliver it 3 times...each time within 2 minutes of 1 pm....so 12:58 on tuesday, 12:59 on wednesday and 1:01 on thursday...

of course she is at school at that time...and most people are likely at work...

so it goes back to amazon...grrrr...for some reason they won't leave it and didn't leave a note...

i had to reorder and put it for two day shipping and she has a friend staying at her house on tuesday to get it

i usually love amazon, but this would have been much easier if i just sent her 100 bucks and had her go to the local best buy or something...

oh well...my anger is fading...

g

ps...should get 50cents or a buck from a ps3 cable that shipped a couple of days ago... and i have some more movies shipping soon that should throw a buck or two also...

That sucks, g. UPS never leaves packages at my door but at least they leave a note so I can pick it up that evening.

Oh and you'll get some money from me fairly soon when I buy a NiMH battery charger.

The affiliate link filter messed up the links in my post here: http://forums.applenova.com/showthre...017#post653017

When I go to edit the post, the VB Code is correct, but the filter is cutting off the closing ].

That said, when we buy our camera, I'm totally using the affiliate link.

I may look at modifying the code later, but it's an ugly tangle of code.

edit: I see what's wrong... I'll fix your post by hand.

Apparently the plugin works fine with these uses of URL tags:
  • [url="http://url.tld/path/to/file/"]My Link[/url]
  • [url]http://url.tld/path/to/file/[/url]
But not this:
  • [url=http://url.tld/path/to/file/]My Link[/url]
Note the missing quote marks in this last one.

Weird. I'll try to remember that in the future. I've never used quotes in VB code before, but it shouldn't be too hard to remember.

You can aid your memory using this handy rhyme:

Use quotes

FWIW, I've never ever used delimiters for the any tags. Interesting that it'd just break now.

No no no no no! "dick" and "quotes" don't rhyme at all. It was a joke.

Like, it was supposed to be funny, and thus memorable, because it wasn't a rhyme. It was a fail of a rhyme.

Oh well. I thought it quite unlikely pair but who am I to judge?

No way to tell a rhyme from anti-rhyme here, I'm afraid.

Does the plug-in work properly if we use the handy dandy button for inserting links? That's what I do.

Yeah, I never use quotes either. This may bother me enough to modify the underlying code to behave properly without quotes.

Yes, because the link button includes the quotes.

Don't worry! For the time being, I have received an eleventh Commandment through divine revelation, and I have faithfully transcribed it into my forum signature, that it may serve as an aid to all.

Off-topic (click to toggle):
Cool. It also made me realize something else. How does the VB parse it? I mean, without the delimiter, I would assume it's expecting an ] character to mark the end of string and I'm guessing we don't have any strong-typed variable here as well.

]The ']' character should not be at the beginning of this hyperlink to "google.com]".
The ']' character escaped with %5D, but I think it gets passed in literally

http://www.google].com isn't re-parsed with escape; get a standard can't find the page error. Yet, Section 2.2 marks the square brackets as unsafe characters, and sounds like they should be escaped.

I can't think of any websites stupid enough to put in funky characters like []s directly in URL so that shouldn't be a concern. Just a curiosity for me.

The Amazon linkage plugin uses a pile of shitty regexes and loops. It's really awful and I ended up rewriting a fair chunk of it to be less insane.
