My concern about the roof is that it's a large surface area and all wood structure other than the front walls. I would cry if I had to rebuild it again. Then get a flight to personally visit Notch.

I will say we've minecarted during play on this version and it's not had *ANY* issues since updating the CPU. If I recall correctly, Drew was riding the cart to the Arena and the CPU went from 30% to 38% and load didn't budge. No one saw any lag either.

Bryson was on during this test as I'm pretty sure billybobsky was too though I am drawing a blank on those details.

The short version is one cart doesn't effect play at all right now.

arteggio - I went out and put a half-dozen or so breaks in the western stretches, and noticed that the southern-most end of your skywalk (the room) had its corner creepered. There were still dirt blocks floating in the hole so I wondered if it was recent and you knew about it.

There's a few other places I need to thing about some sort of protective covering as the skywalk crosses over land (the place where you put dirt siding on the way out to the castle, the path out to the UFO, werejack's area coming up to his mountain hut), so I'll add that area to the list.

So it goes.

I think I was on then too. I rode the Arena track with Bryson and bobsky around and you're right, it didn't seem to have a huge effect at all (and it was hella fun ). But with everyone going out further and further lately I can see where there's the potential for a lot of traffic and extended usage. We'll see, I guess. Without meaning to be a dick or anything, I'd suggest that the admins don't throw free minecart tracks/wads of iron around like popcorn. If you want a track to your far-off land, then mine the supplies to build it.

So it goes.

What if we hand out iron like dirt maybe?

Well it's your server, you do what you want. I think it's kind of boring to just magically get anything you ask for (besides things that are unobtainable in SMP for now - I have asked for and received glowstone and netherrack (thanks again Brad!)). I appreciate the occasional "ZOMG out of torches/whatever!" gifts, for sure, but getting tons of assets just because it takes to long to do it yourself kind of defeats the purpose of the game. imo, of course.

So it goes.

I was kidding, I can see you aren't.

Generally I'm with you though. Admittedly, I don't mind passing out things on a small basis. I rather enjoy being able to give actually. I love the dispenser systems I built and don't mind making those available to the public because no one wants to trek that far just for some armor and tools.

I know you were kidding. I swear I'm not trying to be a dick, it just sounds that way.

And your dispenser systems are awesome. I've a set of diamond armor (which I've never had before because diamonds are better used for tools and iron armor was good enough), and a diamond sword (my second one ever - first one was a gift from Brad after his arena giant* killed me). I think the dispensers are a perfect use of admin power, actually.

*[edit]: Now that I'm remembering that awful scene again, it wasn't a giant. It was a normal-sized person in the stock Minecraft outfit, but with superpowers or some shit. I don't know what kind of unholy it was, but it got a bead on me and kicked my ass quick-like.

So it goes.

RE: Admin magic. Has anyone else ever thought about having a currency system so when you need rare and unobtainable stuff, you can "buy" it from Brad and turtle? The currency would, of course, be slimeballs, and the major sources of money would be killing slimes, trading with other players, and the casino!

We could have set prices, and charge by the stack. A stack of logs or cobble would be 1 slimeball, stuff like sand, glass, wool, flower dyes, coal and iron would be in the 2-16 slimeball range, stuff like lapis and diamonds could be 32, or more. It would also make trading with each other easier, because we wouldn't be bartering anymore.

I think it would be fun to have to save up for (or try and win) stuff like Glowstone and Netherrack. Or you could just use it to buy diamonds if you're lazy. But in practical terms it would mean that no material is unobtainable and it would add a new layer of fun to the game. I know a lot of servers use currency systems for exactly this purpose and whenever it comes up in forums and/or r/minecraft, people seem to praise it.

Also, currency means that we can "charge" other players various goods and services. For instance, I think it would be cool if you had to pay slimeballs to use turtle's armory. In fact, currency makes the entire turtle compound way more fun

It would also mean we would need a bank, and the bank's security would consist of the honor system. It's worked okay so far, though, and stealing slimeballs wouldn't do you any good since their value lies in being able to redeem them.

Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end.

I suggested this a while back in game (not with slimeballs ), but it never gained any traction. When Brad gave me 13x64 of netherrack, I put 13x64 of redstone ore into the community exchange just so I felt I was "paying for it." That's a shit-ton of redstone and it dwindled my supply down quite a bit, but I was thankful for the only thing that could bring Flaming Mountain back to life (and it's on my list! I swear!). I've been slower in paying back the glowstone gifts, but I will.

So it goes.

I'm thinking about how I can convert the lower mines of the Stairs of Insanity into a slime harvester....

A little cactus, water and a downward slope to the west.

Good luck. I think the entire population of Bridgeport was down there yesterday night. Slimes were coming out of the walls, I'll tell you.

I'm calling Lime for my section of the Monorail system. Even if it is a ways off.

Sorry I haven't been on recently (and thus haven't finished that god forsaken roof on my remodeled house). It's the week before finals week, and you all know what that means. :/

Argh...that reminds me, I've got finals coming up in 3 weeks. I've already been scarce on the server lately, but it looks like I may end up being absent entirely until that's over. Particularly with a calculus exam coming up this Friday...

Actually, guys, I'm postponing the update until Thursday or Friday night, now that I think about it. Gotta need to take some time to update the texture pack, and I'm slammed with work tomorrow (in office from 0830 to 2000). No later than Friday, though, whether I have updated textures or not.

That's cool. I read on the MC wiki that planted saplings will randomly change to either birch, pine or normal after the update, so whenever you're ready give an hour or so warning so that I can cut down the tree farm and replant. It'll save some birch trees in the world.

So it goes.

Later in the week works better for me, too, since I'm taking an overnight tonight out of town to get away (and go swimming ).

However, unless your tree farm is spaced to allow the generation of birch or pine you will likely only grow oak (normal).

Birch space needed: 5x5x7
Pine space needed: 7x7x10

Yeah, I know. I can still use my current tree farm for birch (just spacing the saplings out by 5) but Pine is a problem. I don't know if Pine will even grow in the Bridgeport biome. It may need to be in cold weather.

So it goes.

Pine doesn't need cold to grow....

There are optimal planting patterns for each farm, pine is planted and grown with bone meal first, birch second, oak last.

That's good to know. I'm not a bonemeal grower, really - I just plant and come back later to harvest - so I may build something specific to pine eventually.

So it goes.

Lightning is bad enough, but tornadoes, too? (Not really, just spotted this in a tornado warning and immediately thought of the game.)

Typically I am not either, but if it is necessary for packing the pines and spruce in, I will...

Not quite that wide, apparently!

Just tested on SMP locally. You can plant pine with a gap of just two between trunks.

Haven't tried compactly growing birch yet.

Good news everyone!

I **FINALLY** saw some rain on the local SMP server I've been running. No lightning, but I did start a few fires myself to see what would happen.

See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-XTGGqQtMj8

Forgive the unusual texture pack. I was trying out a few others (this one being Quandary) to pick-and-choose some new item textures.

Spoiler (click to toggle):
Result: Great success! Rainfall actually does a very good job at trying to put out any fires exposed to it.

I just learned about flint/steel and whatever weird tree/bush thing you were fiddling with. Looked different... suppose it was the texture pack, as you mentioned.
