Got my new iMac G5 (17" 2.0GHz) yesterday, having switched from Windows. I inserted the CD for the iPod software, tried to open the package thingy but a message pops up saying that it can't install and that I need a network update. I tried a younger CD for a different iPod, and got the same message. Also posted to the Apple support forums, but haven't got a response.

I'm downloading the latest iPod updater thingy from Apple. It was also suggested that I download 10.4.1, which I am doing (at great pain - on dial-up!). If I do these, will it all work? Is there something I've missed completely? Is the iPod updater the exact and only thing I need to get the iPod working?

I find it incredibly ironic that everything works - including my crappy HP digital camera - but for my only other Apple product!

Cheers.

did you try to hook up the iPod before doing the CD thing. Most apple product work out of the box with almost any Mac compatable acessory with the possible exception of a few printer models.

Uh, I never used the iPod CD, because I have a Mac.

My point: it's all on there already; the CD is redundant to us.

Yes, the iPod Updater will wipe your Windows iPod and make it a Mac iPod.

Make sure you have all your music moved over to iTunes on your Mac first.
