I haven't tried ordering yet. I think I'm going to be going through AT&T for their trading deal. Seems like it might be the best bang for buck for us.

I went with AT&T directly and they gave me $830 for my old 11 Pros. Two 15 Pro Max (Blue for Mrs T and Natural for me) at ~$16 a month because of the trade credits and such. Basically it was the cheapest out of pocket for me. Certainly better than going through Apple directly.

I don't know if I want to be contractually tied to AT&T for another 3 years - their service where I'm at seems to be degrading while prices keep increasing. Still, the best on-its-face deal. Hmm.

I had T-Mobile when I lived in St Paul, but where I am now, it's not used very much and Verizon is much more popular. I'm apparently in the sweet spot for my local T-Mobile tower, when I do a speed test, I get 200mbps on LTE

Well, worst case is you pay off the phone if you want to leave AT&T. That is why I went ahead and went this route for these phones. When I went from my 11 Pro to my 13 mini I went out of pocket to Apple Store with veteran's discount.

Mine struggled a bit right at 8 AM eastern, and eventually loaded, but my pre-order timed out when trying to finish it, so I just had to complete a new order.

Still got what I wanted for first day delivery. White 15 Pro.

I still don't know how Apple hasn't finalized this pre-order nonsense. Let people just complete the pre-order to reserve a phone and give them an hour or so to complete it after orders open so there's not a mad rush.

Hell, let Apple Card members buy early as an incentive.

I wish the SE2nd gen got more than $80 Like I went for the SE for way more comfortable hand size! But I want the camera of the 15. But at $799 I can get either an iPhone or a MacBookAir and I need a laptop more.

I just upgraded my phone but am not able to check for you. I haven't read anything about CarPlay updates, but I'm sure there are some in there somewhere.

So far I'm not noticing anything on my phone other than a few UI tweaks that don't really amount to much to me yet.

Edit: I rebooted it and got it down to 10.13GB. Still makes the iPad really tight.

After years of supporting the SE and the sub-$500 iPhone space, I'm looking at these iPhone (the smaller, non-pro model) in a way I never have the flagship models.

That mint green one is really nice. I just can't get myself to be okay with $800 for a phone. Wish I could win one in a contest or something. No need/interest for the three-lens "pro" models at $999 and up. Ugh.

But I do believe the SE (and anything smaller than 5.1") is on the way out, so I gotta adapt or continue using old-ass tech/features.

I think the SharePlay part of CarPlay is new in iOS 17. You can scan a QR code and anyone in the car can control the music from their phone. Seems like a pretty cool feature if you have a bunch of people in the car.

I havne't noticed anything else so far in CarPlay so far though.

I assume this is only for vehicles with wireless Carplay. Yeah it's 202x and wired carplay is still a thing in many vehicles.

My 2022 is wired CarPlay only. I haven't tried the SharePlay thing in it yet. Heck, last night is the first time I really even got in it, and that wasn't to drive it since updating my phone. I'll have to try later today.

Today is the day. I'm actually pretty excited about getting this upgrade. Still not sure I'm going to be as thrilled with the switch from mini to Pro Max though.

I'm loving this phone so far. I did put a screen protector on it this time even though I supposedly don't need one. My 13 mini got scratched within a few weeks so I'm not ready for a few years of a deep scratch on my screen.



The size is really different, as though we didn't know that. In my hand it does feel larger, though less like a phablet than I assumed it would. It does feel huge when I hold it up to my head to talk. Thankfully I use AirPods normally.

It is taking forever to get the apps downloaded, but once that happens I'll be able to play with it more. In some ways literally for some of my games.

Yikes. I can hardly fit the XS in my pocket comfortably, couldn’t imagine having one those Pro Max behemoths.

Yeah, it is big, but it doesn't weight my gym shorts down enough to make them fall off without me having to tie the waistband thing. So it isn't too bad. It is really odd feeling still when I try to do one-handed things I used to do with the mini. Some getting used to going on here.

The migration from my mini to the Max has been pretty painless overall. I did an iCloud backup from the mini and then went through the normal phone setup on the Max. Nothing special, put it on my network, walked through the steps (that included the upgrade to 17.0.2) and then restored from iCloud.

The initialization process moved my phone service from the old phone to the new phone. It was so smooth. the "hardest" part is getting things like MS Authenticator migrated. That still isn't bad, just not as easy as some of the apps that don't seem to notice they are on a new device.
