remember when clinton had fleetwood mac sing...i think kerry should have a group do the same for him, but on the campaign trail...

who would you like and what song??

my pick:

black eyed peas: where is the love

What's wrong with the world, mama
People livin' like they ain't got no mamas
I think the whole world addicted to the drama
Only attracted to things that'll bring you trauma
Overseas, yeah, we try to stop terrorism
But we still got terrorists here livin'
In the USA, the big CIA
The Bloods and The Crips and the KKK
But if you only have love for your own race
Then you only leave space to discriminate
And to discriminate only generates hate
And when you hate then you're bound to get irate, yeah
Badness is what you demonstrate
And that's exactly how anger works and operates
Nigga, you gotta have love just to set it straight
Take control of your mind and meditate
Let your soul gravitate to the love, y'all, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

It just ain't the same, always unchanged
New days are strange, is the world insane
If love and peace is so strong
Why are there pieces of love that don't belong
Nations droppin' bombs
Chemical gasses fillin' lungs of little ones
With the ongoin' sufferin' as the youth die young
So ask yourself is the lovin' really gone
So I could ask myself really what is goin' wrong
In this world that we livin' in people keep on givin'
in
Makin' wrong decisions, only visions of them dividends
Not respectin' each other, deny thy brother
A war is goin' on but the reason's undercover
The truth is kept secret, it's swept under the rug
If you never know truth then you never know love
Where's the love, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the truth, y'all, come on (I don't know)
Where's the love, y'all

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love
The love, the love

I feel the weight of the world on my shoulder
As I'm gettin' older, y'all, people gets colder
Most of us only care about money makin'
Selfishness got us followin' in the wrong direction
Wrong information always shown by the media
Negative images is the main criteria
Infecting the young minds faster than bacteria
Kids wanna act like what they see in the cinema
Yo', whatever happened to the values of humanity
Whatever happened to the fairness in equality
Instead in spreading love we spreading animosity
Lack of understanding, leading lives away from unity
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' under
That's the reason why sometimes I'm feelin' down
There's no wonder why sometimes I'm feelin' under
Gotta keep my faith alive till love is found

People killin', people dyin'
Children hurt and you hear them cryin'
Can you practice what you preach
And would you turn the other cheek

Father, Father, Father help us
Send us some guidance from above
'Cause people got me, got me questionin'
Where is the love (Love)

Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)
Where is the love (The love)

Anyone remember when Clinton used the Bruce Springsteen song "Born in the USA" song for his campaign at one point. Apparently Clinton didn't realize that the song was very politically charged, however negatively. Crazy democrats

The election itself should have a theme song.

We don't stop - Spearhead
(excerpt from lyrics)
They've got a war for Oil
A war for Gold
A war for money
and a war for souls

a war on terror
and a war on drugs
a war on communists
and a war on hugs

a war on birds
and a war on bees
they got a war on hippies
trying to save the trees

A war with jets
and a war with missiles
a war with high seated government officials

Wall street war on high finance
war on people who just love to dance

A war on music
a war on speech
a war on teachers and the things they teach

a war for the last 500 years
war just messing up the atmosphere

A war on muslims, a war on jews
a war on christians and hindus

a whole lot of people saying kill them all
we got a war on my man, abul jamal

a war on pot is a war that's failed
a war that's filling up the nations jails

world war 1,2 ,3 and 4
chemical weapons, biological war

Bush war 1 and Bush war 2
They've got a war for me
They've got a war for you

what gelding said.

too early for songs, plus i think the stakes are way too high this time around to trivialize the election with a jingle.
i even offered my services to the kerry campaign yesterday.

my signature, AMERICAN TUNE, by paul simon although nearly 30 years old, is again meaningful.......

Many's the time I've been mistaken
And many times confused
Yes, and I've often felt forsaken
And certainly misused
Oh, but I'm alright, I'm alright
I'm just weary to my bones
Still, you don't expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far a-way from home, so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered
I don't have a friend who feels at ease
I don't know a dream that's not been shattered
or driven to its knees
but it's alright, it's alright
for we lived so well so long
Still, when I think of the
road we're traveling on
I wonder what's gone wrong
I can't help it, I wonder what has gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying
I dreamed that my soul rose unexpectedly
And looking back down at me
Smiled reassuringly
And I dreamed I was flying
And high up above my eyes could clearly see
The Statue of Liberty
Sailing away to sea
And I dreamed I was flying

We come on the ship they call the Mayflower
We come on the ship that sailed the moon
We come in the a-ge's most uncertain hours
and sing an American tune
Oh, and it's alright, it's alright, it's alright
You can't be forever blessed
Still, tomorrow's going to be another working day
And I'm trying to get some rest
That's all I'm trying to get some rest

blah, blah...
Cute. No doubt headliners on the "non-partisan" Rock the Vote tour?

As for the thread, yeah, I can think of several theme songs for Mr. Kerry. But it's Friday, the weather is great and I feel zingy and upbeat, so I ain't gonna go down that road.

Marvel at my restraint, won't you?

bruce said "apparently he hasn't listened to the words"

Born down in a dead man's town
The first kick I took was when I hit the ground
You end up like a dog that's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life just covering up

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Got in a little hometown jam
So they put a rifle in my hand
Sent me off to a foreign land
To go and kill the yellow man

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.

Come back home to the refinery
Hiring man says "Son if it was up to me"
Went down to see my V.A. man
He said "Son, don't you understand"

I had a brother at Khe Sahn fighting off the Viet Cong
They're still there, he's all gone

He had a woman he loved in Saigon
I got a picture of him in her arms now

Down in the shadow of the penitentiary
Out by the gas fires of the refinery
I'm ten years burning down the road
Nowhere to run ain't got nowhere to go

Born in the U.S.A.
I was born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a long gone Daddy in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
Born in the U.S.A.
I'm a cool rocking Daddy in the U.S.A.

change the southeast asian references to middle eastern and it still pertains.

I had that album - who didn't? - back when I was in high school (it was 1984, right? Or thereabout...) and I read the lyrics and got, right away, that it was NOT the "rah, rah...feel good, fist pumping" song everyone took it for.

I loved the words and when I'd see people on news reports or, worse, MTV Music News TOTALLY missing it, I'd just roll my eyes. Kinda like this...

A definite downer song, but if all you're hearing to is the music and the chorus (which, no doubt, most probably did), then it's taken by some to be a counterpart to that sappy Lee Greenwood song that rears its head about every eight years.

It's anything but.

But that's politicians for you. Some geeky aide, considered "hip" by the older members of the entourage, probably suggested it. But Bruce ain't a Republican and all President Reagan or his staff would have to do is read a couple of interviews to know that Springsteen probably wouldn't be nuts about the idea of Reagan using the song.

Hell, they probably went and asked Don Henley and Cher next.

"You see, Mr. President. This Don Henley was in a musical group called The Eagles...and we all know that the eagle is the proud symbol of America. He's GOTTA be one of us. Shall I make the call, sir?".

Meanwhile, Henley probably hated Reagan more than any musician going.
