I hereby post my vote for Korean soccer player.... Lee Dong-Gook.

Poor bastard... and he's pretty good too from what I understand.

Along the same lines, I knew (of) a girl in college named Polly Boner. For real. She was quite popular, as I recall.

I knew a Tina Bimbo and a Jason Bonner (have to deliberately mispronounce the last name). Manli Wang takes the cake I think, considering her gender... or so we think!

I think I wrote this in another thread. One of my friend's father is called Andrew Peacock, and he gets called Drew. Rather unfortunate

My mom tells me she knew a guy named Phil Ness. His son was named John Phillip Ness. Or, if you just want to use the middle initial, that's John P. Ness. She also knew someone named Betty Bang.

I went to school with a kid named Willy. His younger brother is named Peter. Another person I went to school with was Becky Buckles.

That's BECKY Buckles. Works even better.

She was pretty cute, too. I had a bit of a crush on her. But I never really knew her that well.

I've known people named Susan Body, Candy Treat, and a PE teacher named Harry Wong. A dentist named Dr. Hurt.

Also a kid with the legal first name of Nimrod.

But yeah, Manli Wang is rough. Probably sounds terrific in Chinese though. Of course, it helps that she's female.

I cannot EVER imagine going to a gynecologist named Harry C. Beaver.

I only go to female gynecologists anyway. My last one 'was' actually of Korean extraction; but, fortunately, her name was NOT Cee Up Yoo.

What I have always wondered, ever since my dad told me about Dr. Beaver, was what on earth were his parents thinking? And then what was he thinking when he decided to be a gynecologist..."hmmmm...I could possibly have the best business card EVER!"

Yeah, his business card might be great for a laugh among his colleagues, but I think most women would completely shy away from going to someone with such a name. It's like he's making fun of them in the most crude, unprofessional way.

I suppose they'd go to him if he were the only gynecologist in the county.

His parents acted inexcusably; he was no better.

I mean, REALLY!

Other bad names from the sports world:

Dick Trickle (sp?)

Mia Hamm

...and while it's not unfortunately crude, like most of the names here, I think the name of famously bad filmmaker Uwe Boll has always been, well, famously bad. I know, I know, he's German, but still...Uwe?!? Screen names were invented for a reason, Mr. Boll.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

Ewe. Reminds me of a more bad-ass German name:

Udo Dirkschneider!

Which... I have to say... he and Lou Lamoriello may have been...

Hahaha! Actually until recently my dentist was Dr Pierce. He retired a while ago, but was really good. He would always strike up a conversation with you (somehow???) and had a incredible memory.

I'll never forget this girl's name from high school...Catherine Blindly....she was actually blind!

I think I saw her sorting Skittles by color once, though...

My dermatologist is named Dr. Scales, I lived near a podiatrist in NJ named Dr. Foote, and I went to a school with a John Payne, whose dad was a doctor.

I recently had to clue a student in on the fact that his chosen English name (provided by a previous teacher I presume many years ago) was not appropriate. Sure, it could mean the Greek God of Marriage, but most Westerners don't think of that when they hear Hymen.

Aside from that, I've come across some other English names that Chinese students pick for themselves, that, although not side-splittingly funny, are interesting choices nonetheless: Rocky, Dragon and Bush come to mind - and these are just a few that I taught yesterday.

I work with a guy named Gary Hunt (not funny) and he has a brother named Michael. Poor Mike Hunt.

And there was a Dr. Pain in a place i worked a few years ago as well. It seems quite common.

There was also a Chinese Restaurant named Mun-Shing there as well.

A friend's younger brother had the name Harry Dong. His parents wanted him to have an "american" first name. Oops.
