Hi,

I have a few Podcasts on my computer that don't seem to show up properly in iTunes. When I click 'Podcasts' on the left hand frame, nothing shows in the list- but when I go to 'Library' on the left, the Podcasts show up in that list, with 'PodCast' as the genre.

This means that they show up in the main list on my iPod, not in the Podcasts list on my iPod. It's a pain, and it makes organizing the Podcasts, and then listening to them quite alot harder.

What is going on here, and how can I fix it?

Thanks.

I suppose I could set-up a playlist, and then put all of the missing Podcasts into the playlist.

Would that work?

Any help is much appreciated, this forum has been a saving grace sometimes.

EDIT: That would work, but it's not ideal. The Podcasts would still be listed in the Music list of the iPod...

Yah, I don't have a solution for "Podcasts" in the source list, but if you made a smart playlist where the genre was Podcasts, you should be fine. OK workaround, but not ideal.

Are the podcasts you're downloading via a RSS/XML subscription, or are they simply mp3s? I think the "Podcasts" source list thingy jus tracks subscriptions.

I think you could be right, EJ. They are just mp3's, and yeah, I think the Podcasts list just tracks subscriptions.

For the smart playlist, do I just go File, New Smart Playlist, then select Genre-is-Podcasts, and then hit OK? What exactly will that do?

That's what I've done. That will make a playlist which will always keep any track that has "Podcast" in its genre field in that playlist. So you can select what you want to in your iPod. In my (granted limited) experience with making the genre "podcast", this appears to have the added benefit of having playback of podcasts pick up where left off, unlike other songs, which if you stop playing them and play another track, will start from the beginning instead of where you stopped.
