Did some digging here, didn't find this issue.
I have two PA's, one from my old 14" iBook, and one from my 12" PB. I keep the old one, which is actually the second one from the iBook, next to my chair at home for powering the PB, and the one that came with my PB travels with me when I'm on the road. When I'm not using the one at home, I keep it unplugged, hoping to extend its life. But tonight I noticed that the "green" light was not lit. Figured first that my power strip tripped. But that wasn't the problem. Then I tried a different outlet in the house, no luck there either. Then I noticed that the power indicator indicated that the adaptor was indeed working. Upon further review, I find that it is only powering the PB, not charging the battery. So I then get the PA out of my travel bag, and that one is working just fine. So I'm sure it is a problem with the PA. I'm just not sure if it is "fixable", or "usable". Opinions please. This particular PA is probably 2 1/2 to 3 years old now. I could try the Apple store to see about a free replacement. Probably should since I paid for it when I know for a fact it should have been free. But I was not aware of the rules at that time and wrongly assumed that it wasn't covered! We all know the old adage about the word "assumed"!! But they may just say no due to the age. Your opinions on that matter as well please. thanks in advance! Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

Hmm,
I recently had a similar problem but never thought too much of it. My computer has been on my coffee table for the past couple of days, plugged in. Then I realized that the green light had turned off and that my pb was running on battery time while my computer was plugged in. I thought it was a power failure in the wall outlet. But when I went to unplug the power adapter from the wall, the green light came back on. Do you think there is something wrong with my power adapter then? Cause if the light isn't on, then my pb is running on batteries. Maybe I better call Apple and describe the problem before my warranty expires? Last edited by SKY : 2006-02-23 at 22:34. |

I'm heading for an Apple store as soon as time permits. I let my PA sit for most of a day, and then tried it again. Saw the "red" light for a heartbeat, then nothing. Now, on my flight tonight, my battery only lasted for about 95 minutes!!! It had been lasting for about three hours.
I won't be plugging in that PA ever again!!!! Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

Yup, I'd bet your adapter is dead.
The same thing happened to my adapter about a year ago, even with the flickering red light. It's happened to a few others here as well. Take it into an Apple Store and demonstrate it. They'll try a different adapter on your machine and then your adapter on one of their machines. Then, provided you're still under warranty, they'll just hand you a new one for free. I'll report back on this Saturday. I'm in LA and will try to get to an Apple store then. I've got that day off!!
Paid days off out of town are cool! Think the battery life is related to the PA taking a dump?? Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

Chucker, I'd be ok with the battery losing capacity if it was that old, but it came with this PB last March. So it ain't even 12 months old yet! It had dropped some in capacity lately, but what I saw tonight was really F'n bad!
I'll bitch about both things when I get to the store!!! thanks gang. Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

hmm... the thing is my friends comp has a similar problem. The green light does not come up... thereby the battery is not charging which is 0%... but her computer is running when the PA is plugged-in. So i don't know why is that damn light got to do with the charging of the battery. But for sure the PA is not completely dead. at least in her case because the compyter runs even thought the battery is 0%.

Iceman, that is exactly whats going on with mine! I just don't want to chance it.
I have seen the "red" light, even if it was only for a second. If they tell me at the store its ok, maybe I'll use it. But I'm hoping I get a new one. Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

well if you can get a new one then it is fine. But did you try with another PA to see whether it is exactly PAs fault or sth else? could be also the case if your power connection place in the PB. not sure... just check.

Iceman, I had checked. I've got two PA's, and the other is fine. So I knew right away that it was bad, just wasn't sure how bad. I was wondering if maybe the little green/orange/red light bulbs in the tip had blown out.
So anyway, I went to an Apple store Genuis bar today in LA. They checked out my stuff, and with no cost to me, gave me a new PA and a new battery! Life is good. I also got to play with a MacBook Pro! Bitchin fast. Like, oh my F'n god fast!!! Fired up Safari AND loaded the Apple store web page in about 2 seconds! My eyes about popped outta my head. Cool box, may have to get me one of them some day..... Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

SKY, as you have mentioned, did you call Apple? If then what did they say. At least in my friends' case, it was the problem with the adaptor. Did you try with a different adaptor?

My PA has been fucked for several months too. It's quite annoying because I dont feel like going out and dropping $50-60 or whatever it is on a new PA. I think mine has a short in it so you have to fuck with it while its in the wall or surge protector until the green light comes on and if you bump it even a hair, itll go off. ahhhhhhh!!!

I phoned Apple before and they told me it was becuase of my outlet, not the adapter. Can this be true? Cause I can have other items plugged in and left on, with no power failure. |

I've tried it with two other outlets and the result was the same. I will try it with another adapter and see what happens. |
