Your standard butterfly closeup. The beautiful little thing did not move even as took a number of snaps just inches away - and it stayed put for a long time afterward. The picture has an almost superimposed quality to it, but the photo is actually as taken. I believe that the effect is a product of use of the macro setting on my X100.

Went to see some classic cars last night and came home with this image.

Did you come home with the car or just the picture of it? It is a very nice picture and also a great car!

I got this lens about a year ago, and I love it.

I'v seen some people posting pictures with a polarizing filter and I was wondering what I should get to fit on this lens?

A circular polarizer can be useful, if you want to cut down on reflections on glass, water and plant life. In addition it will bring out deeper blues in the sky on a bright day (as long as you are at right angles to the sun). It can also be used to slow down the shutter speed, but not by much, maybe -0.7ev to -1ev.

From the specs of the 18-35mm Sigma you need a 72mm sized filter for that one. Being a somewhat wide angle lens, make sure you go for a wide band filter, since they are thinner and less likely to cause dark corners in shots at 18mm. I'd recommend getting a multi-coated Kenko, or Hoya filter, (Keno is the parent brand of Hoya). They are the same product, but the Kenko is often sold for less because Hoya is more well known outside of Japan.

wide-angle lenses are very finicky with filters in general and even moreso with circular polarizers. At 18mm if you snap a photo of sky, you will certainly get a localized dark patch rather than over the full frame.

We had a little wind storm (gusts up to 94KM/H or 58MPH), which is odd for Vancouver in August and there was some carnage. I took the opportunity to do some photojournalistic shooting with my Fuji X30.

I tried to get a good set of pictures of the moon last night but was thwarted by clouds and bad weather. I ended up only getting the first part captured. Here is my best followed by some clouds covering an almost completely eclipsed moon:

I went to a gorgeous state park in upstate NY with some friends and took some great shots. My favorites:

I knew it was Watkins Glen as soon as I saw the first pic. I love that place.

Drove through there a few years ago and hoping to maybe drive through there again next month on my way to Niagara Falls.

Nice pics Capella.

This is a pic I took on a trip to England this past June. The Concorde (in retirement) at Brooklands.

OK, these pics are not exactly wonderful, but I thought the subject was cute enough to warrant the posting.

Looked like a nest until we got a little closer...

Now that's a cool photo set. Where were the pics taken? Just out and about or some habitat like place?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that... about .5 km from my business. It was taken yesterday. Actually almost the exact same spot the guy who drove into our building a few years ago dumped his dying truck and made a mad dash for freedom through the coulee, evading the local canine unit.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same little dude we've found hiding out in our yard from time to time. Cute as hell.

Interesting find. At first I thought a beaver had gone insane and climbed a tree, until I looked closer.

I'm guessing this isn't going to be a white Christmas here:

I've finally begun updating my long-dormant website, starting with photos from a trip to Hanoi back in May.

Hey, I like water!

Seriously though, we try to get out and swim somewhere along the coast pretty much every weekend. This past weekend I fear is the last of the year though. The water was fucking cold. Like, legit cold on its way to freezing. I usually stay in the water for an hour or two while Anna is sunning, but this was a bowl full of nope. I lasted about 20 minutes THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID and then I ran the fuck out with my legs numb.

It's good to take a dip once in a while. I haven't swam in a large body for quite a few years. Last time was on the Oregon coast (Seaside) where the water hovers around -9000º!

I love the lines of that image. I keep trying to looking up the mountain in the background though.

Yup, that image quickly became my desktop background. As for looking up the mountain, due to logging in the area it's not too pretty.

On a ferry in Hungary earlier this year. Something almost noble about that bird.
