Hi Apple Novans,

I have done absolutely everything and cannot get Gmail and Apple Mail via POP to work.

All settings are correct, honest!

And yes, I....
...checked other threads
...turned POP access on and saved it via the GMail preferences.
...turned on SSL with the right port numbers both sending/receiving.
...tried all my likely passwords.
...deleted my Keychain entries for all things GMail
...deleted and reentered the Mail account setting for Gmail
...looked on the Gmail help FAQ and boards
....Googled for answers
...read MacOSXHints.com's entries
...changed my GMail password and tried it over and over with Mail (yes plenty of time has elapsed and the password is the real one now)

Everyone seems to have either given up or it's working peachy keen.

I continually get password dialogs and have never once logged in successfully.

Can anyone absolutely vouch for if GMail's POP works for them using Apple Mail? And were there any tricks to get it to work?

Many thanks.

I had the same problems when POP was finally turned on in my gmail account. Here is what I did to get it working. I deleted the account in Mail.app. Then I changed the password through gmail to something different. Waited a day. Set the account back up in Mail following the gmail instructions to the letter. Set the "check for new messages every XX minutes" to 10. I still have problems if I tell Mail to check for messages after it just checked. I just wait and eventually it goes through.

Ok thanks, I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, in general GMail has serious lags sometimes. I've had delays of receiving mail of up to 30 hours. Send a message to myself and wait.....nothing. Other times it's flawless.

Well, as with all impatient, frustrated, troubleshooting efforts, I lost track of what I did "right" but it is now working correctly. Yay.

I suspect that there was a significant lag-time in Gmail becoming aware of my turning on the Pop settings. Maybe they have a huge ass database and it isn't instantly updated/synched to the actual POP software, who knows.

Haha. I was just about to say, "beta." It'll get better, as nothing is perfect in its beta stage. I'm sure some of us remember OS X beta. And look at it now
