The G4 Came out first in 1999, and the G5 came out 4 years later in 2003.

In 2007 at least, we should see a Power Mac G6.

Whaddya think everyone?

Who knows? Who cares? This is PURE speculation. All we can really draw on is information about the IBM POWER5, the successor to the G5's father, the POWER4. That's covered in the "PowerPC" thread.

The point is, Apple will switch to a new processor when they need to. Playing silly numbers games doesn't tell you anything.

The G5 still feels too "new" to be half-way through it's lifespan.

And I don't think you can just say that because the G4 was Apple's top processor for four years, the G5 will be Apple's top processor for four years, too.

So, I'm thinking no.

Agreed. But I'll speculate anyways.

The G4 is still going strong.
The G5 is still very new and overpowered for its time.
The G6 won't be here for a LONG time.

That's my guess.

It's just that, at this point, we might as well be speculating on when the G7 will come out...

I'd describe it as still having untapped potential.

Perhaps, but:

Emphasis mine.

Read 'em and weep.
